PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tug Boat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Sypher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tug Boat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daniel Sypher!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boat tries to clinch but Sypher moves out of range.
Sypher closes the distance and clinches up with Boat, looking for a takedown. Sypher pushes Boat against the cage but Boat circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Boat tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sypher swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sypher pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sypher circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boat tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sypher paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Sypher closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Boat did well to prevent Sypher getting side control.
Sypher is trying to control the action in half guard but Boat is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sypher missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Boat is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sypher wants to control but Boat is keeping him busy.
Boat is trying to stand.

Daniel Sypher has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Sypher shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Boat's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boat keeping moving, preventing Sypher from controlling successfully.
Sypher throws a big right hand that misses.
Sypher is looking to stand up but Boat won't let him.
Boat wants to stand but Sypher is controlling the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sypher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Daniel Sypher hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Sypher swats away the attempt to clinch by Boat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sypher gets the takedown into side control.

Sypher looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Boat tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sypher wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sypher is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The strikes coming from Sypher are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Boat being controlled for a moment.

Sypher stands up and beckons Boat to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sypher shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Boat defends it nicely.

Boat tries to sprawl but Sypher drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Sypher seems content to control.
Sypher tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Boat.
Sypher throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Boat to regain full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sypher wants to pass the guard but Boat is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Sypher dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sypher misses with a wild body shot.
Sypher stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sypher wants it to stay on the feet.
Tug Boat is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Boat closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Boat manages to break the clinch.
Boat closes the distance but Sypher moves to the side

and Sypher counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Boat has a closed guard, preventing Sypher from standing up.
Boat is adopting a defensive guard.
Sypher postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sypher trying to control the position from guard on top but Boat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tug Boat has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Boat shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sypher manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sypher not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sypher seems keen to control Boat's posture.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sypher trying to keep a closed guard but Boat is proving a slippery customer.
Daniel Sypher has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Daniel Sypher.
Sypher fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Boat avoids it really well and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sypher keeps the fight on the outside.
Sypher tries to clinch up.
Sypher fails with a takedown attempt.
Sypher has a takedown stuffed.
Tug Boat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Sypher.
Horrible takedown by Sypher or perhaps it was just good defense by Boat which made him look bad.
Sypher is breathing heavily.
Boat moves in looking to clinch but Sypher pushes him off.
Sypher circles away from the clinch attempt

and Sypher counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boat keeping moving, preventing Sypher from controlling successfully.

Sypher wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Boat's closed guard. He's half up but Boat has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Boat pivots and extends the arm, Sypher falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Boat! Well done that man!
