Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Dempsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Mitrione (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Dempsey could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Matt Mitrione's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dempsey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mitrione counters with a shoot takedown. Dempsey fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Dempsey wants to sweep here but Mitrione controlling him for the moment.
Mitrione works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Mitrione is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Dempsey still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Dempsey has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Dempsey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mitrione drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dempsey pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dempsey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mitrione as he jumps to the side.

Mitrione drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dempsey dives on top into guard.

Mitrione has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Dempsey off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Dempsey counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dempsey tries for a takedown but Mitrione sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown by Dempsey or perhaps it was just good defense by Mitrione which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mitrione closes the distance and clinches up with Dempsey, looking for a takedown. Mitrione pushes Dempsey against the cage but Dempsey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Mitrione counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dempsey's guard now.

Mitrione thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Dempsey wants to control but Mitrione postures up.

Mitrione tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mitrione has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mitrione goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dempsey has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mitrione but great work by Dempsey.

Dempsey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mitrione keeps working.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dempsey looking to sit in guard and control but Mitrione gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mitrione drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dempsey looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dempsey looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dempsey!

This one could be over very soon! Dempsey goes limp - he's gone! Mitrione jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
