The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The Beast shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Virtanen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The Beast postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Virtanen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of The Beast, into his guard.

Virtanen wants to control but The Beast is keeping him busy.
Virtanen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Virtanen seems to be working for a kimura but The Beast defends the submission attempt.
Virtanen is pressing down on The Beast's thigh, looking to free his foot. The Beast is holding on for now.
The Beast is refusing to be controlled, as Virtanen sits in half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Still in half guard, Virtanen seems content to control.

Virtanen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Virtanen is keen to just control but The Beast is a slippery customer.
The Beast is looking to improve his position.

The Beast has his foot on Virtanen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Virtanen works his way back into a safe position though.
Virtanen wants to control from the top but The Beast keeps moving.
Virtanen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The Beast escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Virtanen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Virtanen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The Beast isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Virtanen stacks The Beast on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Virtanen!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Virtanen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, The Beast has escaped the position, nice work there.

Virtanen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Virtanen is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. The Beast is trying to escape and Virtanen transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and The Beast is forced to tap! Nice work there by Virtanen! Very nice indeed!
