PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rozza Batchelor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Halloway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batchelor is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Rozza Batchelor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Halloway!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halloway pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Batchelor looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Halloway drives through with a takedown into guard.
Halloway controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Halloway is working Batchelor over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Halloway lands a couple of elbows.
Halloway scoring with some ground and pound.
Batchelor keeping moving, preventing Halloway from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Halloway slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Halloway lands a decent elbow from side control.
Halloway has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Batchelor!

Halloway lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Halloway has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Batchelor's face.
Batchelor is working to get back to half guard.
Halloway lands with some strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Halloway lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Batchelor hang on?

Halloway is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Batchelor to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Batchelor shrugs it off.

Batchelor takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Batchelor might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Halloway looking to control and managing it successfully.
Halloway connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Halloway is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Batchelor can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Batchelor is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Halloway has hold of Batchelor's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Batchelor manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Halloway takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Batchelor wants to control but Halloway is having none of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Halloway dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Halloway closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Halloway lands in his opponent's guard.

Halloway is taking a breather. Batchelor says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Max Halloway has got the better of the ground game so far.

Batchelor is refusing to be controlled, as Halloway sits in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Halloway slips a nice elbow through Batchelor's hands, connecting with Batchelor's forehead.
Halloway frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Halloway takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Batchelor keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Halloway tries to control but Batchelor wriggling away.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Max Halloway.

Halloway drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Halloway in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Halloway is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Batchelor's shoulder. That is not cool.

Halloway has hold of Batchelor's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Batchelor tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Halloway cranks the arm and Batchelor screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Batchelor, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Max Halloway!
