PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Jamesion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Shin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Jamesion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marcus Shin!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Shin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jamesion tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jamesion fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shin to the ground. Jamesion is now in Shin's guard.
Shin keeping moving, preventing Jamesion from controlling successfully.
Shin seems keen to control Jamesion's posture.
Jamesion slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mark Jamesion wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Jamesion tries a head kick but it misses.
Jamesion staying out of range there.
Shin slaps away a takedown attempt from Jamesion, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jamesion checks a low kick from Shin.
Jamesion throws a sloppy head kick and Shin moves out of range easily.
Shin showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jamesion.

Jamesion gets caught flat footed, as Shin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jamesion wants to stand and escape but Shin is having none of it.

Shin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jamesion manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shin has Jamesion in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jamesion looking to sit in guard and control but Shin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jamesion is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jamesion preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Shin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Shin looking to sit in guard and control but Jamesion gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shin is working an open guard so Jamesion takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheers as Shin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jamesion doesn't seem phased though.
Jamesion wants to clinch.

Jamesion gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shin to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jamesion on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jamesion tries to get out of the position.

Jamesion throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Shin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Jamesion dodges the ground and pound from Shin.

Jamesion defending against the ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jamesion is looking to reverse the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jamesion wants to get back to his feet.
Jamesion is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marcus Shin will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Jamesion fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shin, pushing him back against the cage.
Jamesion slows down the pace here.
Shin tries to break free but Jamesion pushes him back against the cage.
Jamesion tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Shin avoids it.
Shin is looking to take this one to the mat.
Shin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jamesion is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jamesion is trying to pull guard but Shin has him pressed against the cage.
Jamesion with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Shin can't get the takedown.
Mark Jamesion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Shin.

Jamesion breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jamesion throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Shin dodges the punch combination from Jamesion.
Shin fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Jamesion is out of range.

Jamesion drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shin keeping full guard, as Jamesion tries to pass.
Jamesion lands a couple of digs.

Jamesion stands and steps away. Shin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jamesion fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mark Jamesion seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jamesion wants to clinch.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Jamesion lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jamesion looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shin throws a leg kick that misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jamesion is defended easily by Shin.
Jamesion slips under a jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shin clobbers Jamesion with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Shin takes a swing at Jamesion's ribcage but misses.
Jamesion displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Shin throws out the jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jamesion looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Left hook, right uppercut from Shin.
Shin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Jamesion closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shin to the mat! Shin manages to get full guard.
Shin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jamesion working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Shin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jamesion won't allow Shin to get back to his feet.
Shin is breathing heavily.

Shin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shin being controlled here, momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Jamesion dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Shin throws the left hand but Jamesion avoids the punch easily.
Shin swings widly with a right hand
and Jamesion counters with a nice uppercut.

Jamesion changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Shin is looking for a sweep.
Shin takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Jamesion taking a breather here.

Jamesion has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Shin misses with a lunging right hand

and Jamesion counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jamesion.
Shin is trying to control the position but Jamesion postures up.
Jamesion controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Jamesion wants to pass the guard but Shin is keeping the position.
Jamesion wants to stand but Shin is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jamesion accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shin connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jamesion. Jamesion circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Jamesion shoots in and gets a takedown into Shin's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jamesion trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jamesion trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Shin manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Jamesion manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shin manages to get himself to full guard.

Shin can't keep his opponent in guard - Jamesion advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Shin is trying to get back to full guard.
Shin is looking to control Jamesion's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shin avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jamesion is trying to control. Shin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Shin is looking for a sweep. Jamesion is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shin is trying to maintain the position but Jamesion is very close to passing his half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jamesion shoots in looking for a takedown. Shin tries to sprawl out of it but Jamesion keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jamesion tries to clinch there but Shin circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Jamesion showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jamesion has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
