PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hiro Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiromashi Kotomitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiro Watanabe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiromashi Kotomitsu!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kotomitsu rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Watanabe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kotomitsu won't be happy with that.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Watanabe happy to just control the position for now.

Watanabe thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Watanabe prevents Kotomitsu from escaping the position.
Kotomitsu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Watanabe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Watanabe is staying tight to Kotomitsu's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Watanabe seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kotomitsu for as long as he can get away with.

Watanabe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kotomitsu sprawls well. Kotomitsu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Watanabe gets slowly back to his feet.

Kotomitsu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Watanabe moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hiromashi Kotomitsu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kotomitsu scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Hiro Watanabe has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Watanabe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kotomitsu but Kotomitsu pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Watanabe slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A lull in the action here as Watanabe stalls from top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kotomitsu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Watanabe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kotomitsu keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kotomitsu misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Watanabe takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Watanabe shoots in looking for a takedown but Kotomitsu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Watanabe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Watanabe dives in and grabs Kotomitsu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kotomitsu pushes down on Watanabe's head and hops out.

Watanabe jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kotomitsu walks away with a smile on his face. Watanabe gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Watanabe misses with a takedown attempt - Kotomitsu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kotomitsu looks to land a combination. Watanabe sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Watanabe shoots in but Kotomitsu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kotomitsu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Watanabe.

No joy there for Kotomitsu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Watanabe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kotomitsu sprawls well initially but Watanabe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Watanabe seems to be looking for submissions.

Kotomitsu is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Watanabe has taken his back.

Watanabe is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Kotomitsu with him. Kotomitsu is trying to defend but Watanabe has an arm under the chin now! Kotomitsu grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hiro Watanabe!
A very excited looking Hiro Watanabe rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
