PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leon Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaguncinho Cabramacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leon Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jaguncinho Cabramacho!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cabramacho fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cabramacho misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cabramacho lands a head shot.
Cruz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cruz moves into the clinch.
Cruz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cabramacho smiles and moves away.
Cruz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cruz wants it to stay on the feet.
Cruz misses with a double jab
and Cabramacho counters with an outside leg kick.
Cabramacho fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Leon Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaguncinho Cabramacho.
Cruz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cabramacho swivels and escapes.

Cabramacho shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cruz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cabramacho won't be happy with that.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cabramacho is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cruz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cabramacho with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cruz misses with a head shot. Cabramacho uses the momentum to regain guard.

Cruz wanted to stand there but Cabramacho had control of the position.
Cruz is working Cabramacho over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cabramacho looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cruz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cabramacho is aware though and is defending well.

Cruz controls Cabramacho momentarily but Cabramacho frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cruz is controlling Cabramacho's posture.
Cabramacho trying to control the position from guard on top but Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cruz drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cruz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cabramacho looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cabramacho looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cabramacho!

Cruz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cruz is trying to control but Cabramacho passes into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cruz tries to bench press Cabramacho off him but Cabramacho keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cabramacho tries to close the distance and clinch but Cruz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cruz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice takedown defense from Cruz. No joy for Cabramacho on that attempt.
Cabramacho shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cruz pinned against the cage. Cruz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cruz clinches up with Cabramacho and pushes him back against the cage.
Cruz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cabramacho to keep the fight standing.

Cruz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cabramacho gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Cruz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cabramacho smiles and moves away.

Leon Cruz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cabramacho fails with an attempt to clinch.

Cruz blocks a head kick by Cabramacho.
Cruz slaps away a takedown attempt from Cabramacho, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. Cabramacho tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cabramacho manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cabramacho fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cruz shoots in for a double leg but Cabramacho sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cruz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cabramacho eats them both and turns towards Cruz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cabramacho sprawls well. Cabramacho wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cruz gets slowly back to his feet.

Cruz gets tackled into the cage by Cabramacho. Cabramacho maintains the clinch.
Cabramacho lands an elbow just above Cruz 's eye.
Cruz keeps control of Cabramacho as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Cabramacho misses with a knee to the head.

Cruz jumps guard and drags Cabramacho to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Cruz is trying to keep Cabramacho in close.
Cruz is really struggling to control Cabramacho but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Cruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cabramacho can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cruz is looking for a triangle but Cabramacho pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cabramacho might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cruz kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A close second round but Jaguncinho Cabramacho will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cabramacho sprawls well. Cabramacho wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cruz gets slowly back to his feet.
Cruz shoots for a double leg takedown but Cabramacho sprawls well. He's pushed Cruz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cruz is defended easily by Cabramacho.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cruz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cruz lands some shots froms side control.

Cruz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cabramacho knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cabramacho is looking for a sweep.
Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cruz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cabramacho has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cruz but great work by Cabramacho.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cabramacho is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cabramacho is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cruz sees it coming and defends easily.
Cruz is refusing to be controlled, as Cabramacho sits in half guard.

Cruz manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cruz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cruz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cabramacho pinned against the cage. Cabramacho gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cruz falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cabramacho counters with a head kick. That will keep Cruz thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Cabramacho slaps away a takedown attempt from Cruz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cruz keeps the fight on the outside.
Cabramacho dives in and grabs Cruz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes down on Cabramacho's head and hops out.
Danga de danga de dang - Cruz scores with a four punch combination!
Cabramacho looks for a takedown but Cruz sprawls well.

Cabramacho shoots in but Cruz avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cabramacho napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cabramacho takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Cruz decides to stand back up. Cruz steps back and let's Cabramacho get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cruz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cabramacho.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cruz tries to pull guard but Cabramacho forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Leon Cruz showed his dominance in that final round.
