PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Belushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Belushi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belushi closes the distance looking to clinch
and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Belushi avoids the head kick by Johnson.

Johnson moves into the clinch.

Belushi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Belushi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Belushi wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.
Johnson jabs Belushi right on the nose. Belushi blinks but takes it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnson missing with a left hand there. Belushi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Belushi dodges the punch combination from Johnson.
Belushi shoots in but no luck this time.
Johnson looks to land a body kick but Belushi moved away.
Belushi avoids the head kick by Johnson.
Belushi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Belushi shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Belushi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Belushi has Johnson pressed against the cage, preventing Johnson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Johnson has had enough of the clinch but Belushi keeps him there for the moment.
Johnson misses with a punch to the body.
Belushi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Belushi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Belushi looking to stall.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Belushi won't allow it.
Johnson wants to break free but Belushi has control.
A frustrated look appears on Johnson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Belushi tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Belushi is trying to pull guard but Johnson has him pressed against the cage.
Johnson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Belushi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Johnson uses from the top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Johnson throws an elbow that misses. Belushi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Johnson's guard. Nice move by Belushi!

Belushi looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Johnson slips nicely into half guard.
Belushi keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Johnson thows a huge punch but Belushi dodges it nicely.
Belushi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Johnson works his way into side control.
Belushi sneaks back into half guard.
Belushi is breathing heavily.
Johnson throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Belushi to regain full guard.
Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Belushi is retaining full guard.
Belushi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Belushi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Belushi has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Belushi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Johnson scores with a nice strike.

Johnson drives through with a takedown into Belushi's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Johnson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
A punch lands to the side of Belushi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Johnson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Johnson thuds his right hand into Belushi's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Johnson closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Belushi out cold! Belushi corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Anthony Johnson!
