PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Edward Richtofen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francesco Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edward Richtofen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Francesco Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lucas looks to land a left hand but Richtofen moved out of range nicely.
Richtofen scoring well with a low kick there.
Richtofen lands with a slapping head kick.
Lucas ducks under a wild hook from Richtofen.
Richtofen throws a head kick that misses.
Richtofen connects with a high kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Richtofen throws a body punch but Lucas moves out of range.
Richtofen just misses with a punch to the body.
Lucas bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Richtofen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Richtofen misses with an attempted mid kick.
Richtofen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lucas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Richtofen circles away.

Lucas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Richtofen to the ground. Lucas is now in Richtofen's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Lucas wants to control from the top but Richtofen keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lucas won't allow Richtofen to sweep him here.
Lucas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Richtofen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lucas is one step ahead there.
Lucas with a flurry of punches that miss.
Richtofen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lucas's guard.
Richtofen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Richtofen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Richtofen being controlled here momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Richtofen stays in close to Lucas's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lucas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Richtofen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Richtofen's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lucas throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

We're going to have a standup here because Edward Richtofen wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Richtofen pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Richtofen moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Richtofen attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Richtofen throws a front kick that sends Lucas stumbling back into the cage.
Richtofen connects with an inside leg kick.
A jab lands there for Richtofen.
Lucas takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Richtofen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lucas.
Lucas loads up on a big right hand but Richtofen slips the punch.
Lucas shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Richtofen as he avoids it easily.
Edward Richtofen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francesco Lucas.
Lucas looks winded!
Richtofen thows a body kick. Lucas tries to catch it but that hurt him.
A combination from Richtofen does no damage.
Richtofen lands with a hook. Lucas tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Richtofen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lucas.
Richtofen fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lucas misses with an uppercut.
Richtofen works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Richtofen dances in with a quick combination. Lucas is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Richtofen snaps Lucas's head back. Lucas stumbles backwards against the cage. Richtofen steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Lucas's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Lucas just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Edward Richtofen!
An out of breath Edward Richtofen thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
