PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Harrison!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Harrison.
Harrison fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Harrison fails with an attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Harrison or perhaps it was just good defense by Cooper which made him look bad.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cooper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cooper instigates a clinch.
Cooper wants to get back to striking at distance but Harrison won't allow it.

Harrison manages to pull guard.
Harrison is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper passes Harrison's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Cooper gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
A punch combination from Cooper misses.
Harrison lands with a right hand.

Cooper moves into the clinch successfully.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Cooper.

Harrison is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cooper is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Harrison to the mat. Harrison regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Harrison has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Cooper has passed into side control.
Harrison is trying to get back to his feet.

Cooper stands up.
Harrison tries to clinch but Cooper is having none of it.
Harrison looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cooper is fending him off so far but Harrison persists. Nope, Cooper circles away and we're back to standing.
Sam Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Harrison.
Harrison looks gassed!
Cooper misses with a head kick.
Cooper misses with a series of wild punches.
Cooper takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Cooper clinches up with Harrison and pushes him back against the cage.
Harrison trying to stall but Cooper improves his position.

Cooper lands a takedown into guard.
Harrison looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cooper has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Harrison is proving hard to escape from.

Cooper gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Cooper clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Harrison gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cooper.
Harrison prevents Cooper from breaking the clinch.

Cooper manages to pull guard.
Cooper wants to stand up but Harrison is controlling him.

Harrison wants to control from the top but Cooper keeps moving.
Cooper looking for a sweep. Not yet Cooper, not yet.
Harrison pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cooper is keeping the position for now.
Cooper looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Harrison puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Harrison regains full guard. Nicely done.

Cooper avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cooper has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Cooper wants to stand but Harrison has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cooper stays in close to Harrison's body and controls the position.
Harrison is trying to control the position but Cooper postures up.
Cooper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harrison swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Harrison is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Cooper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Harrison, up you get!

Cooper fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Harrison sprawls well initially but Cooper persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cooper escapes and gets back to his feet.
Harrison on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Cooper dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cooper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cooper misses with a few strikes there.
Cooper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Harrison.

Cooper lands a body shot in the clinch.
Cooper lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Harrison backwards.

and Cooper counters with a shoot takedown. Harrison fights it but they end up in guard.
Harrison manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cooper manages to get himself to full guard.
Harrison stops Cooper from standing up.
Harrison lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cooper wants to stand and escape but Harrison is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Harrison passes Cooper's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Harrison wants to stand but Cooper has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Cooper is staying active underneath Harrison, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cooper lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Cooper trying to hold on to Harrison's head to control him but Harrison postures up.
Harrison tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cooper.
Cooper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Harrison is trying to control the action in half guard but Cooper is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Harrison prevents Cooper from standing back up.
Cooper is not content to let Harrison control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Harrison throws a right hand that Cooper ducks under and follows up with a left that Cooper also avoids with ease.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Harrison connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Harrison wants to clinch but Cooper slips to the side

and Cooper counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Harrison!
Harrison is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cooper is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Cooper shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Cooper is stalling in the full guard.
Harrison is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooper wants to control the action here but instead Harrison manages to pass to full mount!

Harrison is looking to stand but Harrison has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Harrison can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cooper is looking to escape.
Cooper is working to get back to half guard.
Harrison connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Cooper is looking to get to half guard.
Harrison avoids the attempt from Cooper to control.
Harrison looking to control but Cooper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cooper takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


It looks like Sam Cooper has been cut.
Cooper tries to hold on but Harrison pushes him away.
Harrison tries to control but Cooper wriggling away.
Cooper's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Cooper slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Harrison is trying to work for a kimura but Cooper is defending well.
Cooper wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Harrison passes to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Cooper dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Sam Cooper's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Harrison has his takedown stuffed
and Cooper makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Cooper on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Harrison. Harrison obviously looking to wear him down.
Cooper throws a combination that misses
and Harrison counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Cooper circles away from the clinch attempt.
Harrison misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Harrison shoots in for a takedown but Cooper shows good takedown defense.
Sam Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Harrison.
Cooper wants to clinch.
Harrison closes the distance and clinches up with Cooper, looking for a takedown. Harrison pushes Cooper against the cage but Cooper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Cooper counters by moving into the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cooper has had enough of the clinch but Harrison keeps him there for the moment.

Cooper misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Harrison.
Cooper throws a nice looking combination but Harrison bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Harrison with a poor takedown
and Cooper counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Sam Cooper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Harrison throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cooper's waist but Cooper gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Harrison off to one side.
Harrison gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Cooper counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Harrison manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cooper manages to get himself to full guard.
Cooper wants to get back to his feet but Harrison is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Cooper is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sam Cooper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Harrison is fighting to break Cooper's control of his arms but Cooper is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Harrison is sitting in close to Cooper's body. Cooper has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Harrison is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Harrison is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Cooper.
