PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stuart Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Flynn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flynn has chosen Kanye West- Amazing as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Frank Flynn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stuart Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Flynn!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd cheers as Khan lands an impressive looking overhand right. Flynn doesn't seem phased though.
Khan moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Flynn drives through with a takedown into guard.
Flynn looking to pass the guard.
Flynn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Flynn stands and throws Khan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Flynn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Khan, who protects the arm well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Flynn advances nicely into full mount.

Flynn looking to ground and pound but Khan is blocking nicely.

It looks like Flynn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Flynn was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Flynn takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan swinging wildly here.
Stuart Khan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Khan misses with an uppercut.

Khan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Flynn manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Flynn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Flynn dominated that round.

Flynn ducks right into an uppercut from Khan.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Khan is looking to clinch but Flynn is avoiding it.
Flynn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Khan as he jumps to the side.
Flynn takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Khan avoids the head kick by Flynn.
Flynn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Flynn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Flynn counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Khan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Flynn on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Flynn is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Flynn passes the guard and advances to mount!
Flynn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Khan wants to control but Flynn is having none of it.
Flynn controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Frank Flynn has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Flynn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Khan is letting Flynn control him for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Flynn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Frank Flynn.
Flynn takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Khan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Khan works Flynn's body with a nice hook.
Flynn shoots in for a takedown but Khan shows good takedown defense.
Stuart Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Flynn.

Khan scores with a jab to the body.
Flynn needs to keep his hands up - Khan had a free shot at his head there.
Flynn on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Flynn scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Flynn slows the pace down.

Flynn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Khan, who protects the arm well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Flynn has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Khan is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Flynn yanks on the arm and Khan is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Flynn.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Frank Flynn!
