PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Romulus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Julius Romulus was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Riley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Julius Romulus!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Riley does no damage.

Riley shoots in and bounces Romulus off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Riley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Romulus, up you get!
Nice takedown defense from Riley. No joy for Romulus on that attempt.
Romulus walks into a left hand.
Romulus throws a sloppy head kick and Riley moves out of range easily.
Romulus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Riley is fending him off so far but Romulus persists. Nope, Riley circles away and we're back to standing.

Horrible takedown by Riley or perhaps it was just good defense by Romulus which made him look bad.

Romulus bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Riley's head.

Riley is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Romulus is looking to control Riley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Romulus avoid being mounted?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riley tries to stand and escape but Romulus is controlling the position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Riley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Riley decides to stand up.

Riley looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Riley has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Romulus is trying to keep an underhook but Riley manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Riley wants to take a breather but Romulus is having none of it.
It looks like Riley is going to stand back up.
Riley misses with a head shot. Romulus uses the momentum to regain guard.

Riley lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Romulus circles away quickly and effectively.

Romulus shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Riley sprawls well. Riley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Romulus gets slowly back to his feet.

Romulus looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jimmy Riley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julius Romulus.

Riley is trying to push Romulus away but Romulus has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Riley has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Romulus jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Riley walks away with a smile on his face. Romulus gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Riley has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Romulus clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Jimmy Riley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You can see the frustration on Romulus's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I would just about give that final round to Julius Romulus.
Well Riley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
