These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Licha does no damage.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Licha shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Howard pinned against the cage. Howard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Howard scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Lisandro Licha has been cut.
Licha sizes up Howard with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Licha is defended easily by Howard.

Licha drops back, looking for a kneebar! Howard looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Howard looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Howard!
Licha is looking to regain half guard here but Howard keeps moving and retains side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Licha tries for a takedown but Howard sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Licha swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Howard counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

That was a close round but I would say that John Howard will probably get the nod.

Howard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Licha.

Howard gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Licha.
Howard shoots in looking for a takedown. Licha tries to sprawl out of it but Howard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Licha manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Howard dips to his left and cracks Licha with an uppercut!

Licha takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Howard lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Licha is breathing heavily.

Howard cracks Licha with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Licha tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Howard pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Licha is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
