PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Apolo Creed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schrute is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by No Easy Way Out - Robert Tepper. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Apolo Creed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dwight Schrute!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schrute shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Schrute thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Creed's head.
Creed trying to hold on to Schrute's head to control him but Schrute postures up.
Creed keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Schrute not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dwight Schrute wasn't active enough on the ground.
Creed throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Creed misses with a series of wild punches.

Schrute fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Creed to the ground. Schrute is now in Creed's guard.
Creed keeping full guard, as Schrute tries to pass.
Schrute throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Creed works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Schrute trying to control the position from guard on top but Creed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Creed is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Creed is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Apolo Creed wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Creed throws a sloppy head kick and Schrute moves out of range easily.
Creed throws an overhand right that lands on Schrute's shoulder, as Schrute tries to avoid the shot.

Schrute changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Creed looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Schrute is looking to take a break and control but Creed is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Schrute throws a strike aimed at the side of Creed's head but Creed avoids it well.
Schrute is trying to ground and pound but Creed uses the momentary lack of control by Schrute to regain half guard.

Schrute has closed the distance and engaged Creed in a clinch.

Schrute has clasped his hands together around Creed's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Creed holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Schrute tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Poor strikes thrown by Schrute there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Schrute tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Schrute wants to take a breather but Creed is having none of it.

Schrute is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Creed sees it coming and defends easily.

Dwight Schrute has got the better of the ground game so far.
Creed is pressing down on Schrute's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Schrute must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Schrute drops back, looking for a kneebar! Creed looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Creed looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Creed!

Creed decides to stand up, so the ref orders Schrute to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Schrute showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Creed throws an overhand right that lands on Schrute's shoulder, as Schrute tries to avoid the shot.
Schrute ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Nice defenses there by Schrute.
Apolo Creed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Schrute takes the fight into the clinch.

Creed has hold of one of Schrute's legs. Schrute is fighting the takedown attempt but Creed gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Schrute wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Creed manages to pass to side control.

Dwight Schrute comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Schrute has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dwight Schrute opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
