PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Stroud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stroud comes to the cage accompanied by Vallenfyre - Iconoclast. Martin has chosen Dean Martin - LITTLE OLD WINE DRINKER ME as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dean Martin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Stroud!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Martin!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Stroud is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Martin tries to stand and escape but Stroud actually recovers to full guard.
Stroud wants to sweep but no luck.
Stroud keeping full guard, as Martin tries to pass.
Stroud wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Martin throws a big right hand that misses.
Martin wants to control from the top but Stroud keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stroud can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Martin controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dean Martin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Martin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Stroud throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Stroud connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Martin's hands.

and Martin counters with a left to the body.
Martin shoots in looking for a takedown. Stroud tries to sprawl out of it but Martin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stroud manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A left lands for Stroud.
Martin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stroud avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stroud fails to land with a series of punches.
Martin ducks under a wild hook from Stroud.
Martin swings away with a body shot that misses
and Stroud counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Stroud throws a right and a left that Martin avoids nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stroud shoots in looking for a takedown. Martin tries to sprawl out of it but Stroud keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Martin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stroud as he jumps to the side.
Stroud fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Stroud is trying to control the action in half guard but Martin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stroud lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Martin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stroud working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Stroud postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Stroud landing with the ground and pound.
Martin is trying to keep Stroud in close.
Stroud advances to half guard.
Stroud lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Stroud trying to control the action but Martin is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Martin trying to control from the bottom.
Stroud thows a huge punch but Martin dodges it nicely.
Martin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Martin has hold of Stroud's hands but Stroud slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Martin is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Stroud manages to pass to mount!
Martin tries to hold on but Stroud pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Martin really wants to buck Stroud off and get back to his feet.
Martin tries to lock up and control but Stroud gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Martin can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Stroud dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Martin dodges the punch combination from Stroud.
Stroud is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Martin.
Martin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stroud defends it nicely.
Stroud darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Stroud looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Martin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stroud is fending him off so far but Martin persists. Nope, Stroud circles away and we're back to standing.
Martin tries to clinch but Stroud is having none of it.
Stroud lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


Martin is rocked!
Stroud cracks Martin with a left hook right on the temple and Martin goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Stroud lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Martin is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tom Stroud!
Tom Stroud seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
