The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bernard sprawls well. Bernard wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lawson gets slowly back to his feet.

Bernard feints and as Lawson raises his hands in defense, Bernard changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lawson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bernard trying to control the position from guard on top but Lawson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lawson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Lawson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Oh Lawson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bernard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
