PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robbie McStar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Kirby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kirby has chosen Forgot about dre. as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Robbie McStar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Kirby!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McStar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kirby tries to roll over but McStar keeps him under control.
Kirby keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
McStar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kirby can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kirby regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from McStar.
McStar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kirby works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
McStar throws a big elbow that misses.
Kirby really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McStar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kirby wants to stand up but McStar is controlling him.
Kirby preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

McStar is trying to control. Kirby wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McStar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kirby circles away.

Robbie McStar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kirby lands a jab to McStar's midsection.
McStar fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by McStar or perhaps it was just good defense by Kirby which made him look bad.

Nice uppercut lands for Kirby. That snapped McStar's head back.


It looks like Robbie McStar has been cut.
Kirby shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. McStar eats them both and turns towards Kirby to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
McStar takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Kirby fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kirby dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kirby, as that shot connected.
Kirby defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McStar.
Kirby scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kirby misses with a two punch combination.
Kirby steps to the side to avoid the strikes from McStar.
Kirby scores with a decent looking hook.
Kirby fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McStar manages to avoid it.

McStar slips a straight right by Kirby.
Nice takedown defense from Kirby. No joy for McStar on that attempt.
Kirby thows a left - swing and a miss!
McStar shoots for a double leg takedown but Kirby sprawls well. He's pushed McStar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

No joy there for Kirby, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McStar on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Kirby throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
McStar slips under a jab.
Nice takedown defense from Kirby. No joy for McStar on that attempt.
Kirby stuns McStar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Kirby misses with a series of wild punches.
McStar fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kirby moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McStar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McStar is working Kirby over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

John Kirby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kirby comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

McStar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than McStar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McStar prevents Kirby from getting the reversal.

McStar has isolated one of Kirby's arms. Kirby looking to fight him off but McStar twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

A very excited looking Robbie McStar made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
