PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moishe Kaplan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanner kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Billy Idol's Rebel Yell. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shane Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Moishe Kaplan!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Kaplan misses.
Tanner doesn't manage to clinch there - Kaplan circles away.
Kaplan throws an overhand right that lands on Tanner's shoulder, as Tanner tries to avoid the shot.
Tanner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Horrible takedown by Tanner or perhaps it was just good defense by Kaplan which made him look bad.
Tanner tries to clinch but Kaplan moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tanner displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kaplan throws out the jab.

Kaplan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kaplan wriggles free and stands up.
Tanner misses with a takedown attempt - Kaplan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Tanner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A choreographed right hand from Kaplan misses the target.
Kaplan throws a shot from downtown. Tanner moves away and avoids it.
Tanner keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kaplan.

Tanner wants to clinch up but Kaplan keeps it at a distance.
Moishe Kaplan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kaplan misses with an uppercut.

Tanner gets the takedown into side control.
Kaplan struggling a bit here.
Kaplan tries to buck Tanner off but Tanner is having none of it.
Kaplan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Kaplan is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Tanner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kaplan is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tanner is controlling him well.

Kaplan bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Kaplan misses with an uppercut. Tanner saw that one coming.
Kaplan scores with the left hand. Tanner knows he should have avoided that one.
Tanner looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kaplan is fending him off so far but Tanner persists. Nope, Kaplan circles away and we're back to standing.
Tanner blocks a jab.
Kaplan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Kaplan lands with an overhand left.
Kaplan takes a swing at Tanner's ribcage but misses.

Tanner clinches up with Kaplan and pushes him back against the cage.
Kaplan is trying to break free.
Kaplan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kaplan wants to get back to striking at distance but Tanner won't allow it.
Tanner tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kaplan just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kaplan has had enough of the clinch but Tanner keeps him there for the moment.
Tanner prevents Kaplan from breaking the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Moishe Kaplan will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kaplan scores with a sloppy right hand. Tanner should have avoided that one.
Kaplan might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kaplan throws a looping overhand right but Tanner ducks down to avoid it.

Tanner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kaplan's waist but Kaplan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tanner off to one side.
Kaplan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Moishe Kaplan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kaplan lands a with a good body shot.
Tanner moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice jab there from Tanner.
Tanner moves away from the strike by Kaplan.
Tanner tries to clinch but Kaplan moves out of range.
Kaplan connects with a nice looking jab.


Tanner is rocked!
Kaplan throws a series of punches but Tanner moves out of range.

Kaplan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Tanner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kaplan tries to avoid it but Tanner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kaplan to the ground. Kaplan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tanner avoids the body shot from Kaplan.
Kaplan jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tanner takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Tanner feints and as Kaplan raises his hands in defense, Tanner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kaplan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kaplan wants to stand but Tanner is controlling the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tanner landing with the ground and pound.
Tanner content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Tanner loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tanner fails with the takedown.
Kaplan lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moishe Kaplan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Tanner decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kaplan tries to kick Tanner off but Tanner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kaplan tries to get to full guard but Tanner has control of the leg.

Kaplan kicks off Tanner and gets to his feet.
Tanner fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tanner.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tanner looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Tanner shoots in and drives through. Kaplan sprawls well.
Kaplan keeps the fight on the outside.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kaplan but Kaplan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tanner bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fighters circling - Kaplan throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Tanner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kaplan digs a good hook to Tanner's body.
Kaplan throws a hook to the side of Tanner's head but Tanner sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tanner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tanner tries to clinch but Kaplan is having none of it.
Kaplan throws a series of punches but Tanner avoids them all with ease.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A jab from Kaplan misses.

Tanner has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tanner keeps control of Kaplan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kaplan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kaplan lands a right hand.
Kaplan wants to break free but Tanner has control.
Kaplan is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tanner tries to score a body lock takedown but Kaplan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Tanner prevents Kaplan from breaking the clinch.
Shane Tanner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tanner tries to pull guard but Kaplan won't allow it.
Kaplan blocks an uppercut.

And that's the end of the fight!
Moishe Kaplan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kaplan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
