The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasilev blocks a head kick by Diaz.

Vasilev looking to score a takedown here. Diaz is defending well but Vasilev drives through and ends up in Diaz's guard.

Diaz throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vasilev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vasilev drops back looking for a leg! Diaz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Diaz manages to kick Vasilev off! Vasilev jumps back into Diaz's guard.

Diaz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Vasilev uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz is looking for a sweep.
Diaz pushes Vasilev away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Vasilev gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Vasilev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Diaz is looking for a sweep.
Diaz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Vasilev is working Diaz over with some ground and pound from side control.
Diaz pushes Vasilev away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Vasilev gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Vasilev decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Vasilev is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Diaz's half guard.
Vasilev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Vasilev is taking a breather. Diaz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Vasilev slips a nice elbow through Diaz's hands, connecting with Diaz's forehead.
Diaz looks like he's trying to stand up.
Well, if Vasilev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
