PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erick Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Morales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erick Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guillermo Morales!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morales misses with a takedown attempt
and Silva cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Silva darts in trying to clinch
and Morales counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Morales is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Morales swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silva is looking to clinch but Morales is avoiding it.
Morales slaps away a takedown attempt from Silva, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Morales defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Silva.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Morales to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Morales can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva is looking to stand back up but Morales counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Silva.

Silva looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Morales pushes past his half guard into mount!
Morales throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Morales takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Silva is trying to escape the mount but Morales keeps good control and instead manages to take Silva's back.
Morales is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
It looks like Morales might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Silva trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Morales has good solid back control here.
Even with his hooks in, Morales manages to miss with strikes from the back.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Morales is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Silva is defending well though. Morales let's go of the attempt for now.

Morales is looking for a choke. Silva gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Silva manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick and Morales moves out of range easily.
Morales throws a right and a left that both miss.
Morales slaps away a takedown attempt from Silva, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Morales swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erick Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Morales keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Morales fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Morales circles away from the clinch attempt
and Morales counters with a body kick.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but Morales shows good takedown defense.

Morales clinches up with Silva and pushes him back against the cage.

Morales decides to pull guard.
Morales lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Silva!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morales tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Morales throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Let's hope that Morales has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Guillermo Morales wasn't active enough on the ground.
Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guillermo Morales showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Silva would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Morales is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Morales tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Morales to the ground. Morales escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva tries for a takedown but Morales sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Erick Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guillermo Morales.

Silva moves in looking to clinch but Morales pushes him off.
Silva closes the distance looking to clinch
and Morales counters with a nice body kick.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Morales pinned against the cage. Morales gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Guillermo Morales comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Morales has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
