PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sasa Gusi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dutch Schaeffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gusi comes to the cage accompanied by Ekipa- BGD Syndicate. Schaeffer is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Long Tall Sally. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Sasa Gusi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dutch Schaeffer!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gusi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Schaeffer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Schaeffer gets control of Gusi's arms and successfully pulls guard. Schaeffer will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gusi stands up over Schaeffer, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Schaeffer is adopting a defensive guard.
Gusi trying to control the position from guard on top but Schaeffer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gusi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gusi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gusi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Schaeffer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gusi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dutch Schaeffer was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Gusi takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Gusi moves in looking to clinch but Schaeffer pushes him off.

Gusi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Schaeffer wants to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gusi is looking for a kimura but Schaeffer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gusi to get the leverage.

Schaeffer is looking to control Gusi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Schaeffer avoid being mounted?

Gusi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Schaeffer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gusi.

Schaeffer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gusi pulls his head out easily.
Schaeffer is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gusi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gusi's back!
Gusi manages to reverse the position and now he's in Schaeffer's guard. Nice work there by Gusi.

Gusi winds up and cracks Schaeffer with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gusi slips a nice elbow through Schaeffer's hands, connecting with Schaeffer's forehead.

Gusi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Schaeffer defends it well.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schaeffer tries to roll over but Gusi keeps him under control.
Schaeffer is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sasa Gusi will probably get the nod.

Gusi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Schaeffer has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gusi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gusi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gusi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schaeffer keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gusi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gusi connects with a nice short shot to Schaeffer's temple.
Schaeffer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gusi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Schaeffer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gusi is working away from the top position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gusi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Schaeffer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sasa Gusi dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Gusi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Schaeffer.
Schaeffer's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gusi connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Schaeffer scrambles back to his feet.
Gusi takes one on the chin but keeps coming.


It looks like Sasa Gusi has been cut.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gusi, as that shot connected.
Schaeffer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Gusi takes a kick to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Schaeffer is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Gusi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Schaeffer, pushing him back against the cage.

Schaeffer has clasped his hands together around Gusi's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Schaeffer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gusi defends it easily.

Schaeffer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gusi is aware though and is defending well.

Schaeffer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gusi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gusi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schaeffer is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sasa Gusi.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gusi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
