The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McWimpy throws a front kick that sends Ruddock stumbling back into the cage.
Ruddock throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
McWimpy looks to land a left hand but Ruddock moved out of range nicely.
Ruddock throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
McWimpy misses with a takedown attempt
and Ruddock counters with a straight right hand.
Nice takedown defense from Ruddock. No joy for McWimpy on that attempt.
McWimpy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

McWimpy is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Ruddock to keep the fight standing.

McWimpy shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruddock sprawls well. He's pushed McWimpy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ruddock throws a front kick aimed at McWimpy's knee but McWimpy avoids it well.

McWimpy clobbers Ruddock with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
McWimpy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ruddock tries to land a front kick but McWimpy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
McWimpy takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
McWimpy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ruddock tries to avoid it but McWimpy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ruddock to the ground. Ruddock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ruddock.
Ruddock throws a low kick but McWimpy avoids it.
Ruddock misses with an attempted mid kick.
Ruddock defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McWimpy.

McWimpy takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

McWimpy shoots in looking for a takedown. Ruddock tries to sprawl out of it but McWimpy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ruddock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

McWimpy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ruddock's half guard.
McWimpy is keen to just control but Ruddock is a slippery customer.

McWimpy is trying to control. Ruddock wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McWimpy is looking for a kimura but Ruddock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McWimpy to get the leverage.
Ruddock is concentrating on defense, preventing McWimpy from advancing position.
Ruddock on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ruddock tries to get out of the position.
McWimpy seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Ruddock is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
