PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between George Oven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Vallely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vallely has chosen CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 2, fighting out of New York, George Oven!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Vallely!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oven wants to slow Vallely down by chopping away at his legs.
Oven lands a nice leg kick that just misses Vallely's sensitive parts.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vallely is defended easily by Oven.
Vallely thuds a left hand into Oven's body.
A big left from Vallely misses.
Vallely avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Vallely tests Oven's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Vallely shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oven as he avoids it easily.
Oven throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vallely sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Vallely lands with a straight right. Oven didn't see that one coming.
Vallely shoots for a double leg takedown but Oven sprawls well. He's pushed Vallely's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
George Oven has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Vallely.

Oven gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Oven goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Vallely content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Oven doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Oven creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Oven thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Oven tries to pass to full mount but Vallely defends it.
Oven wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vallely keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vallely misses with a jab to the body
and Oven counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Vallely lands a nice looking body shot.
Vallely keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Vallely misses with an uppercut. Oven saw that one coming.
Vallely fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd cheers as Vallely lands an impressive looking overhand right. Oven doesn't seem phased though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Oven is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Vallely.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Oven, as that shot connected.
Vallely throws an overhand right that lands on Oven's shoulder, as Oven tries to avoid the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Horrible takedown by Vallely or perhaps it was just good defense by Oven which made him look bad.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vallely keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Vallely is staying active underneath Oven, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oven bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Vallely throws a leg kick which misses Oven's front leg but catches the back leg as Oven tries to avoid it.
Oven throws a right and a left that Vallely avoids nicely.
A slow jab from Oven misses its intended target.
Oven connects with a solid leg kick.
Vallely misses with a wild body shot.
Oven misses with a looping left.
Some bone on bone action there as Oven checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and Oven counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Vallely looking to score a takedown here. Oven is defending well but Vallely drives through and ends up in Oven's guard.
Vallely trying to control but Oven is working from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vallely loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vallely wants to control from the top but Oven keeps moving.
Oven lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vallely!
Vallely wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Oven.

Vallely tries to lock up and control but Oven gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Oven wants to control the pace but Vallely is squirming around nicely.

Oven seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vallely does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Oven in particular looking to stall.
Vallely misses with some strikes from the bottom.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to George Oven.
Well Oven has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
