Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrion James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Star (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darrion James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Star!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James misses with a hook

and Star counters with a single leg into guard. James didn't expect that.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Star decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on James, up you get!
Star throws a low kick, looking for James's leg but James calmly moves out of range.
James misses with a takedown

and Star counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Star.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James wants to get back to his feet but Star is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Star pushes down on James's leg and manages to get into half guard.

James kicks off Star and gets to his feet.
James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Star misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
James fails with the takedown

and Star counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darrion James. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Star's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
James has a couple of punches blocked by Star.
Star misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from James.
Star keeps control of James as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Come on Star - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Star drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Star breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Star.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
James lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

James would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Star is retaining full guard.
James throws a big elbow that misses.
Star controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

James could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

James decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Darrion James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Star displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as James throws out the jab.
Nice sprawl there from Star as James shoots in.
Star throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Star off to one side.

Star slips a straight right by James.
James scores with a three punch combo!
James tries for a takedown but Star circles away easily

and Star counters with a takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Star is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Star is going oldschool here, as he tries to force James to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so James shrugs it off.
James is trying to stand up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
James is looking to get to half guard.
Star takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Star trying to control but James is having none of it.

James is working to get back to half guard.

Star has hold of James's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and James manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
James tries to reverse the position but Star maintains control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
James is working hard here to advance position.
James might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Johnny Star will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


James lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
James scores with a nice right hand.
Star takes one to the side of the head.
Star ducks under a wild hook from James.
James misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
James fails with the takedown.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James misses with a hook. Star ducked under it nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from James is defended easily by Star.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Star feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Star is nestled in close to James, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
James is not content to let Star control the position.
James is looking for a sweep. Star is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

James looking for subs from the bottom but Star mounts him!

Star stands up from mount. Strange move.

Star drives through and clinches with James against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Star tries for a takedown. No joy.

Star stalling the fight.
Star is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
James is trying to force a seperation but Star has the dominant position.

Star breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Star takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
James shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Star defends it nicely.
James connects with a good right hand that stumbles Star. Star circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Star's hands are dropping dangerously low here and James connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Star scrambles back to his feet.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by James!

Star rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

James wants a takedown.

Star pulls guard successfully.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James throws an elbow that misses. Star uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Star!
Star postures up and lands a big shot to James's brow.
James wants to sweep here but Star controlling him for the moment.

James has an active guard here but Star has managed to pass into half guard.

Star stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows James to get to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Star gets a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Darrion James will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Star shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Star showed some decent athleticism there.

Star gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Star is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Star circles away and we're back to standing.
James misses with a hook.
James looks to land a right hand but Star moved out of range.

Star closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
James has a hand on Star's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Star takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James has given up his back. Will we see Star going for some submissions?

Star doesn't have the hooks in and James manages to turn into his guard.
James postures up in Star's guard and throws a big left but Star blocks it.
Star will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Johnny Star has got the better of the ground game so far.

Star working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. James doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. James manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Star is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

James makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

James manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Star on his heels. He'll look to pass Star's guard now, I'm sure.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Star. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
James can't escape the position.

Star lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
James manages to regain half guard. Good work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James tries to buck Star off but Star is having none of it.
James wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Star comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Star has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
