Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Yoshimitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kato Yamamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryo Yoshimitsu has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Yoshimitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kato Yamamoto!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yamamoto decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Yoshimitsu is looking to improve his position.
Yoshimitsu controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Yamamoto is looking to take a break and control but Yoshimitsu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kato Yamamoto.
Yoshimitsu fails to land the takedown.

Yamamoto keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Yamamoto throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Yoshimitsu was covering up waiting for the punch and Yamamoto finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Yoshimitsu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yamamoto manages to get himself to full guard.

Yoshimitsu throws an elbow that misses. Yamamoto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Yoshimitsu's guard. Nice move by Yamamoto!
Yamamoto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Yamamoto looking to sit in guard and control but Yoshimitsu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Yoshimitsu is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yoshimitsu sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yamamoto's guard.
Yamamoto avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Yoshimitsu.
Yoshimitsu not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Yoshimitsu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Yamamoto's head.

Yamamoto looking for a kimura from the bottom but Yoshimitsu passes into side control!

Yamamoto is looking for a sweep.
Yoshimitsu working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
You can see the frustration on Yamamoto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Yoshimitsu throws an elbow but Yamamoto slips to the side and avoids it well.
Yoshimitsu will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Yamamoto is pushing Yoshimitsu's head away, looking to escape. Yoshimitsu manages to hold on to the position though.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Yoshimitsu throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Yamamoto works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

A close round but Kato Yamamoto will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Yoshimitsu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Yamamoto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yoshimitsu defends it easily.

Yoshimitsu has gone for a leg lock! Yamamoto slips out almost immediately though and dives into Yoshimitsu's guard.

Yamamoto won't allow Yoshimitsu to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Yoshimitsu gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Yoshimitsu wants to control from the top but Yamamoto keeps moving.
Yamamoto controls Yoshimitsu momentarily but Yoshimitsu frees himself.

Yamamoto wants to stand up but Yoshimitsu is controlling him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Yamamoto is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yoshimitsu defends well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kato Yamamoto will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Yoshimitsu fails to land the takedown.

Yamamoto shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yamamoto was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Yamamoto tries to control but Yoshimitsu wriggling away.
Yamamoto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Yamamoto avoids the attempt from Yoshimitsu to control.
Yoshimitsu is desperately trying to improve his position but Yamamoto has a good base and remains in mount.

Yoshimitsu wants to control but Yamamoto is having none of it.
Yamamoto throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Yoshimitsu because Yamamoto loaded up on that one.
Yamamoto prevents Yoshimitsu from getting the reversal.
Yamamoto throwing strikes but Yoshimitsu uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Yamamoto seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Yamamoto decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Yamamoto scores with a crisp jab that stopped Yoshimitsu in his tracks.

Yamamoto rushes Yoshimitsu and presses him up against the cage.

Yamamoto has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Yoshimitsu is trying to keep an underhook but Yamamoto manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yamamoto wants to take a breather but Yoshimitsu is having none of it.

Yamamoto stops Yoshimitsu from getting back to his feet.
Yoshimitsu wants to improve his position but Yamamoto is controlling well.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kato Yamamoto hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Yamamoto shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Yoshimitsu trying to hold on to Yamamoto's head to control him but Yamamoto postures up.
Yamamoto moves nicely into side control.
Yoshimitsu sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kato Yamamoto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Yamamoto has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
