Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Leben!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vaz Sturlett!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Reed Andrews and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Vaz Sturlett has been cut.
Leben keeps the fight on the outside.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Leben's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sturlett wants to clinch up but Leben keeps it at a distance.

Leben closes the distance and pushes Sturlett back into the cage.
Sturlett fails to pull the fight into his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Leben breaks the clinch.

Leben clinches with his opponent.
Leben lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Sturlett backwards.

Leben breaks the clinch.
Sturlett doesn't manage to clinch there - Leben circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sturlett looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sturlett moves in looking to clinch but Leben pushes him off.
A head kick misses from Leben.
Sturlett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Leben paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sturlett tries to close the distance and clinch but Leben swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Leben has taken the fight to the clinch.

Leben manages to break the clinch.

Leben closes the distance and pushes Sturlett back into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sturlett jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Leben walks away with a smile on his face. Sturlett gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Leben feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sturlett's calf.
Sturlett looks winded!

Leben drives through and clinches with Sturlett against the cage.

Leben breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sturlett fails with an attempt to clinch.
Leben comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Leben drops Sturlett with a left and a right! Oh, Sturlett is hurt - Leben dives into side control looking to finish!


Sturlett is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Leben scores with punches from side control.
Sturlett is still in real trouble! Can Leben finish him?
A big shot lands for Leben! That's hurt Sturlett! Will he recover? Leben fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Leben!
Chris Leben retains his heavyweight title!
