PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Ries (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Mic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Ries!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Mic!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Ries.
Ries tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Mic moves into the clinch.

Mic's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Mic clinches with his opponent.

Mic gets control of Ries's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mic will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mic has his hands on Ries's head, controlling the position.
Ries is looking to work some ground and pound but Mic has wrist control.
Mic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ries. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ries tries to stand but Mic is controlling from the bottom.
Ries slips nicely into half guard.
Ries has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mic has one foot on Ries's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mic closes the distance and clinches.

Mic manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ries tries to clinch there but Mic circles away.
Ries moves in looking to clinch but Mic pushes him off.
Ries throws a wild body kick that Mic sees coming a mile off.

Mic clinches.
Mic is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ries is defending well.

Mic pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ries fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ries is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mic sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ries tries to clinch but Mic moves out of range.
Ries is breathing heavily.
Mic throws a one two combo.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mic is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ries pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mic pressing his opponent against the cage.
Ries tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ries is trying to break the clinch but Mic has him pressed against the cage.
Ries is trying to break free.
Mic has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ries avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mark Ries has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Mic.

Ries breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mic rushes Ries and presses him up against the cage.

Ries wants to clinch up but Mic keeps it at a distance.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ries pulls guard successfully.
Mic engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Mic dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ries tries to keep at a distance but Mic has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mic pulls guard successfully.
Ries throws a big right hand that misses.
Ries is looking to stand up but Mic won't let him.
Ries stopping the sweep attempt from Mic.
Mic has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mic is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mic utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mic controlling the position.

Ries drops back looking for a leg! Mic is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mic manages to kick Ries off! Ries jumps back into Mic's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mic wants to sweep here but Ries controlling him for the moment.

Mic has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ries can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ries is looking to work some ground and pound but Mic has wrist control.
Mic throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Ries trying to move into half guard but instead Mic has managed to sweep!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mic tries to free his leg and advance position but Ries is retaining full guard.
Mic preventing the sweep.
Mic controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mic prevents Ries from getting back to his feet.
Mic engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Mic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A left and a right from Mic both land. Nice combination.
Ries fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mark Ries seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ries has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ries there as he acknowledges the shot.

Mic gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mark Ries has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mic successfully pulls guard.
Mic trying to control the position here.
Ries trying to control but Mic is working from the bottom.
Mic wants to stand but Ries is controlling the position.
Mic has Ries pulled in close to control his posture.

Mic scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Ries looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ries tries to clinch but Mic moves out of range.
Ries closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mic circles away.

Mic clinches.

Mic pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mic clinches with his opponent.

Mic escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mic throws a half hearted mid kick.
Ries throws a leg kick that misses.

Mic closes the distance and pushes Ries back into the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mic gets control of Ries's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mic will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mic looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mic preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mic has control of Ries's left arm, preventing Ries from doing any damage.
Ries in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mic wants to sweep here but Ries controlling him for the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ken Mic hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ries misses with a right hand

and Mic holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mic goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ries prevents it.
Ken Mic is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mic is looking for a takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Mic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mic has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
