PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Parra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Parra might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Awooga. Tyson Jackson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Parra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tyson Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Parra's half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Parra flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Parra tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control.
Jackson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Parra does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jackson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Parra defends it well.
Parra makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Parra.
Parra wants to stand but Jackson is controlling the position.
Jackson throws a big elbow that misses.
Jackson postures up.

Jackson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Gustavo Parra just wasn't active enough.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson wants to pass to mount but Parra is defending the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Parra can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jackson controls the pace.

Jackson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Parra breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Parra regains full guard. Nicely done.
Parra throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Parra keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.
Jackson postures up in Parra's guard and throws a big left but Parra blocks it.
Parra wants to get back to his feet but Jackson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Parra is breathing heavily.
Jackson passes into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Parra is trying to stand up here but Jackson is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Parra throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Parra looks to clinch
and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Parra backing up. Parra nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown but Parra shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Parra is not content to let Jackson control the position.

Parra bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Parra throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackson's waist but Jackson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Parra off to one side.

and Jackson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Parra's guard now.

Jackson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jackson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jackson winds up and cracks Parra with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Parra with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jackson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jackson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Parra!
Parra is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jackson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jackson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Parra turns into him and now he's in Jackson's guard.

Parra drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jackson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Parra has Jackson in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyson Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parra is in a horrible position here. Jackson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Parra is having to fend off submission attempts from Jackson, who is looking to sink in the choke. Jackson doesn't have the hooks in though and Parra manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Parra wants to clinch up but Jackson keeps it at a distance.

Parra stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Parra wants it to stay on the feet.

Parra gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jackson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Parra's guard.
Jackson is controlling the pace.
Parra has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jackson is working away from the top position though.
Gustavo Parra has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Parra tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control.
Jackson is keen to just control but Parra is a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I've got Jackson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
