PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cray Daddy Tay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Prien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tay's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Blue (Dancing Crayfish Version). Prien is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Yellow Submarine. Cray Daddy Tay has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cray Daddy Tay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Prien!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tay lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Prien backs up against the cage.
Tay scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
A big right from Tay misses.
Prien shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tay counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Prien feints and as Tay raises his hands in defense, Prien changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tay keeping full guard, as Prien tries to pass.
Tay utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Prien with a flurry of punches that miss.
Tay looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Prien stopping the sweep attempt from Tay.
Prien is looking to work some ground and pound but Tay has wrist control.

Tay avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tay is pulling down on Prien's head. It's preventing any offense from Prien, at least for the moment.
Prien passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The strikes coming from Prien are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Prien creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tay sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Tay moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Prien manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tay manages to get himself to full guard.
Tay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Prien is one step ahead there.

Prien throws a strike but Tay rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Prien is looking for a triangle but Tay pushes his legs off easily.
Tay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prien swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tay got a little sloppy there for a moment and Prien has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tay has managed to get both his arms back between Prien's legs - danger averted.
Tay stands and throws Prien's legs to the side, diving into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tay in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Prien is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Tay is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Prien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Prien is looking to clinch.
Tay lands a head shot.
Tay circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tay defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Prien.
Tay throws a lazy right hand but Prien sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Prien is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tay defends it well.

Prien is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tay is just riding it out for now. Prien eventually gives up the hold.

Tay tries to roll over but Prien keeps him under control.

Tay lands a body shot.
Prien walks into a left hand.
Tay throws a hook to the side of Prien's head but Prien sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tay cracks Prien with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Tay blocks a jab.
Prien closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tay circles away.
Tay leaves Prien with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Prien slips a jab and a cross from Tay.
Prien shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tay counters with a right hand to the body.
Cray Daddy Tay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Prien.
Tay throws out a loose jab but Prien uses good head movement to avoid it.

Prien misses with a low kick.
Tay avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tay closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Tay's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Tay duly obliges.
Prien with a poor takedown
and Tay counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Tay throws a good cross that connects.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Prien feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well, if Prien is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Prien is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Prien is keen to just control but Tay is a slippery customer.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cray Daddy Tay.
I think Prien has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
