The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chaney fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shields throws a head kick that misses.

Shields takes the fight into the clinch.

Shields breaks from the clinch.

Shields rushes Chaney and presses him up against the cage.
Chaney is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shields pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Shields manages to break the clinch.
Chaney shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shields sprawls well. Shields wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chaney gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Chaney. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chaney tries to sprawl but Shields drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Shields tries to pass to full mount but Chaney defends it.

Chaney is looking for a sweep. Shields is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Shields tries to stand but can't do so whilst Chaney controls his leg.
Shields seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chaney does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shields stalling away here and it's allowed Chaney to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chaney lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shields!
Shields tries to improve his position but instead Chaney has taken his back!
Chaney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shields is trying to control his opponent's hands. Eventually Chaney gets his hands free and sinks in a rear naked choke. For a while it looks like Shields is going to survive but after struggling valiantly, he eventually has to tap out! Chaney is your winner!
