PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nanak Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Werdum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Nanak Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabricio Werdum!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Werdum misses with a takedown attempt

and Singh counters by moving into the clinch.

Singh has his foot on Werdum's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Werdum works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Werdum got a little sloppy there for a moment and Singh has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Werdum has managed to get both his arms back between Singh's legs - danger averted.

Singh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Werdum gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Singh is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Werdum is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Werdum is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Singh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Werdum.

Werdum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Singh swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Werdum must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Werdum postures up in Singh's guard and throws a big left but Singh blocks it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Singh is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Werdum pulls his head out easily.
Singh has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Werdum is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Singh fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Werdum, pushing him back against the ropes.
Werdum tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Singh smiles and moves away.

and Singh makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Werdum really felt that one!
Singh feints a jab promting Werdum to slip. Singh then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Werdum slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Singh fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Singh counters with a big head kick but Werdum shrugs it off.
Nanak Singh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fabricio Werdum.
Werdum takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Singh scores with a hook to the body. Werdum takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Singh moves into range and clinches up with Werdum.

Werdum is breathing heavily.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Singh has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Werdum should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Singh has tightened it up now! Werdum should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nanak Singh!
Nanak Singh decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
