The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Why scores with a jab.
Why bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Why scores with a one two! Batista had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Some wild striking there from Why.
Why misses with a few strikes there.
Why defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Batista.
Why lands a nice looking body shot.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Batista.
Batista swings for the body but Why moves out of range.
Batista is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Why counters with a nice body shot.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Batista lands a body punch.
Batista can't get the takedown.

Batista tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Batista wants to break free but Why has control.
Why has had enough of the clinch but Batista keeps him there for the moment.

Batista gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Why regains guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Batista wants to control from the top but Why keeps moving.
Why really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Batista. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Why is wriggling around but Batista manages to pass to half guard.
Why tries to get to full guard but Batista has control of the leg.

Batista is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Why defends it well.
Why avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Batista.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Batista wants to free his trapped foot but Why is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Why has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Batista is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Why wants to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Why can do anything to dispel that myth.
Batista is keen to just control but Why is a slippery customer.
Why tries to roll over but Batista keeps him under control.
Batista passes the guard and advances to mount!
Why really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Batista wants to control the pace but Why is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Batista lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


It looks like John Why has been cut.
Batista trying to control but Why is having none of it.
Batista throwing strikes here but Why is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Why tries to hold on but Batista postures up.
Batista throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Why blocking the ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Batista thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Batista content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Balboa Batista will probably get the nod.

Batista misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Batista slips a jab and a cross from Why.
Why bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Batista's head.
Batista swinging wildly here.
Batista tries to clinch but Why moves out of range.
Why throws a right and a left that both miss.
Batista really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Batista shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Why manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Batista working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Batista will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Batista sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Why's guard.
Batista looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Batista wants to control but Why is keeping him busy.
Batista missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Batista not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Batista is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Why is trying to stand.

Batista wants to finish this one by submission but Why is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Batista.
Why tries to buck Batista off but he can't manage it.

Batista can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Why is looking to escape.
Batista thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Why taking shots to the head.

Batista working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Why looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Batista! Submission of the night perhaps?
