PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jebediah Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Messinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Stewart might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Momma Said Knock You Out. Messinger is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Huckleberry by Ichabod. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Messinger shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stewart pinned against the cage. Stewart gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jebediah Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Messinger avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stewart throws a sloppy head kick and Messinger moves out of range easily.
Messinger closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stewart circles away.
Messinger thumps Stewart with a low kick.
Stewart wants to clinch.

Messinger has closed the distance and engaged Stewart in a clinch.

Messinger's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Messinger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Stewart creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Messinger's defenses.

It looks like Will Messinger has been cut.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Messinger obliges.

Messinger lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Messinger tries to break the clinch but Stewart is controlling the position.
Stewart drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stewart tries a knee to the head but Messinger blocks it.

Messinger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stewart tries for a takedown but Messinger sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Messinger feints and as Stewart raises his hands in defense, Messinger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Messinger gets to his feet. Stewart looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Messinger throws a series of punches but Stewart moves out of range.
Messinger misses with a jab, cross combination.
Stewart is looking to clinch but Messinger is avoiding it.

and Messinger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stewart escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Messinger gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Messinger thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stewart is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Messinger defends well.
Messinger stops Stewart from standing up.
Messinger throws a big right hand that misses.
Messinger wants to control from the top but Stewart keeps moving.
Messinger works over Stewart with some ground and pound from guard.

Messinger decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Messinger throws a leg kick but Stewart checks it.
Stewart checks the leg kick nicely there.
A punch combination from Messinger misses.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Messinger.
Stewart tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Messinger manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sloppy strikes from Stewart. Those never looked like landing.

Messinger is struggling to control the position.

Messinger shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Messinger connects with a nice short shot to Stewart's temple.
Stewart tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Messinger has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Stewart is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Stewart is bucking up trying to escape but Messinger cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Messinger looking to finish Stewart with some ground and pound. This is bad for Stewart!
Stewart knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Messinger on the ground.
Messinger landing punches.

That's time! Stewart's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Stewart leaves Messinger with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Stewart, as that shot connected.

Stewart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stewart working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Messinger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Messinger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Messinger drops back looking for a leg! Stewart is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stewart manages to kick Messinger off! Messinger jumps back into Stewart's guard.

Stewart is looking for a triangle but Messinger pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stewart wants to get back to his feet but Messinger is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Stewart on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stewart tries to get out of the position.
Messinger distracts Stewart with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Stewart has momentary wrist control but Messinger slips an elbow through the middle.

Messinger thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Messinger is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stewart is just riding it out for now. Messinger eventually gives up the hold.
