PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Will Dickinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hironobu Uematsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dickinson comes into the arena with turisas- stand up and fight blaring out of the sound system. Uematsu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Primus - Laquer Head kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Will Dickinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hironobu Uematsu!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Uematsu. Dickinson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Uematsu loads up on a big right hand but Dickinson slips the punch.
Dickinson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Uematsu. Those never looked like landing.
Uematsu throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Dickinson counters with a single leg into guard. Uematsu didn't expect that.
Dickinson stays in close to Uematsu's body and controls the position.

Dickinson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Uematsu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
An elbow from Dickinson crashes against the mat.
Uematsu is looking to reverse the position.
Uematsu gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dickinson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Uematsu's head.

Dickinson thows a huge punch but Uematsu dodges it nicely.

Dickinson wants to work for an arm triangle but Uematsu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Uematsu is not content to let Dickinson control the position.
Dickinson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Uematsu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Uematsu is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dickinson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dickinson's back!

Dickinson is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Uematsu trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Dickinson doesn't escape.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Uematsu is hanging on to Dickinson's back as he tries to escape.
Dickinson trying to control the position but Uematsu manages to sink in the hooks.
Dickinson is in bad spot here.
Uematsu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dickinson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Uematsu doesn't have the hooks in and Dickinson manages to turn into his guard.

Uematsu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Uematsu is pulling down on Dickinson's head to control his posture.

Hironobu Uematsu has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Uematsu takes a swing at Dickinson's ribcage but misses.
Dickinson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Uematsu is fending him off so far but Dickinson persists. Nope, Uematsu circles away and we're back to standing.
Uematsu tries to bum rush Dickinson with a series of wild strikes but Dickinson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Uematsu stuffs the takedown attempt from Dickinson. Dickinson gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Uematsu jabs at Dickinson's body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dickinson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Uematsu misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Dickinson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Uematsu lands with a hook. Dickinson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Dickinson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Dickinson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Uematsu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Will Dickinson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Uematsu throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Dickinson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Uematsu.

and Dickinson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dickinson wants to free his trapped foot but Uematsu is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Uematsu is refusing to be controlled, as Dickinson sits in half guard.

Dickinson prevents Uematsu from improving his position.
Uematsu is staying active underneath Dickinson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Dickinson throwing shots but Uematsu is blocking nicely.
Uematsu pushes Dickinson off looking to stand but Dickinson dives back in and keeps control.

Dickinson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Uematsu defending well though.
Will Dickinson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Uematsu is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Uematsu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A combination from Uematsu does no damage.
Uematsu throws a hook but Dickinson blocks it.
Uematsu throws a big shot that misses.
Dickinson misses with a looping right.

Dickinson closes the distance and clinches up with Uematsu, looking for a takedown. Dickinson pushes Uematsu against the cage but Uematsu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Uematsu staying out of range there.

Uematsu gets caught napping as Dickinson dives in and scores a takedown. Uematsu manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dickinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Uematsu is retaining full guard.
Uematsu looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Dickinson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Uematsu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Dickinson trying to control but Uematsu is working from the bottom.
Dickinson with a nice head shot there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dickinson wants to control from the top but Uematsu keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Uematsu misses the shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Will Dickinson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Dickinson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Dickinson throws a front kick aimed at Uematsu's knee but Uematsu avoids it well.
Dickinson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Uematsu defends it nicely.
Uematsu connects with an inside leg kick.
Uematsu scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Uematsu is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Uematsu cracks a nice hook into Dickinson's ribs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dickinson gets tackled into the cage by Uematsu. Uematsu maintains the clinch.
Dickinson jumps guard but Uematsu stands there with Dickinson around his waist. Dickinson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Uematsu lands a nice shot to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Uematsu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Dickinson is looking to break free of the clinch but Uematsu has double underhooks.
Dickinson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Uematsu smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Dickinson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dickinson scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dickinson moves out of range of the body kick.
Uematsu throws a body punch but Dickinson moves out of range.
Uematsu uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dickinson has time to react.
Uematsu listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.


Dickinson is rocked!
Dickinson leaves his chin hanging out and Uematsu seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Dickinson crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Hironobu Uematsu!
An out of breath Hironobu Uematsu thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
