PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Catfish Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugh Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Catfish Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Hugh Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong tries to clinch there but Davis circles away.
Horrible takedown by Armstrong or perhaps it was just good defense by Davis which made him look bad.
Davis changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Davis throws out a leg kick but Armstrong moves out of range and Davis only half commits.

Davis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Armstrong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Davis working the ground and pound.
Davis working the head and body with strikes.
Armstrong tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis in side control, throwing shots but Armstrong defends.
Davis lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Armstrong struggling a bit here.
The ground and pound from Davis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Armstrong is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Armstrong manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Davis tries to kick Armstrong off but Armstrong keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Armstrong wants to stand up but Davis has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Davis looks like he's trying to stand up.
Davis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Armstrong tries to pass the half guard into mount. Davis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Armstrong trying to control the action but Davis is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davis looks like he's trying to stand up.

Davis kicks off Armstrong and gets to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Davis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Davis wants it to stay on the feet.

Davis has closed the distance and engaged Armstrong in a clinch.

Davis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Armstrong can't fight it off and eventually Davis manages to take the fight to the floor. Armstrong looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Armstrong wants to stand but Davis is controlling the position.

Davis prevents Armstrong from getting back to his feet.

Davis throwing strikes but missing.
Davis throws a big elbow that misses.
Davis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Armstrong works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Davis scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Davis working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Davis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Armstrong is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Armstrong has escaped and now he's on top!
Armstrong wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong is looking to stand up but Davis won't let him.
Armstrong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Armstrong wants to stand but Davis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Davis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Armstrong off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davis connects with a body shot that sends Armstrong's belly button to the back.
Armstrong is trying hard to land a takedown here. Davis sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Catfish Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugh Armstrong.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Davis swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Armstrong rushes Davis and presses him up against the cage.

Davis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Davis closes the distance and clinches up with Armstrong, looking for a takedown. Davis pushes Armstrong against the cage but Armstrong circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Catfish Davis dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Davis pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Davis moves into range and clinches up with Armstrong.
Armstrong lands a damaging elbow.
Armstrong is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Armstrong is fighting off a takedown attempt but Davis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Armstrong to the mat. Armstrong regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Davis stops Armstrong from standing up.
Davis wants to pass the guard but Armstrong is keeping the position.
Armstrong keeping moving, preventing Davis from controlling successfully.
Davis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Davis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Armstrong works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Davis scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Armstrong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Davis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Catfish Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Armstrong manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Davis is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Armstrong wants to control the pace but Davis is squirming around nicely.

Davis bucks Armstrong off and manages to get back to his feet!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Armstrong tries to clinch but Davis is having none of it.
Armstrong shoots in looking for a takedown. Davis tries to sprawl out of it but Armstrong keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Davis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Armstrong scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Davis wants to get back to his feet but Armstrong drags him back down.

Davis sneaks out the side door and pushes Armstrong away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Davis, right into the meat.
Davis dives in and grabs Armstrong's left leg, looking for a takedown. Armstrong pushes down on Davis's head and hops out.
Armstrong shoots in looking for a takedown but Davis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Armstrong's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Davis swats away the attempt to clinch by Armstrong.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis stuffs the takedown.
Catfish Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugh Armstrong.
Armstrong is breathing heavily.
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Davis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A punch combination from Davis misses.
Armstrong with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Davis shoots in and drives through. Armstrong sprawls well.
Davis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Armstrong swivels and escapes.

Davis forces Armstrong back against the cage and clinches.
Armstrong tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Davis as Armstrong tries to tie him up.
Armstrong seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.
Armstrong lands with a light punch inside.

Davis pulls Armstrong into guard.
Armstrong wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

Davis wriggles free and stands up.
Armstrong shoots and misses
and Davis counters with a right hand to the body.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Armstrong checks a leg kick.
Armstrong misses with a takedown attempt - Davis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Davis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Catfish Davis dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Armstrong's guard.
Armstrong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Davis is controlling him.

Armstrong wants to sweep but no luck.
Armstrong is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Armstrong looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Davis passes into side control.
Armstrong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Armstrong is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Armstrong is looking for a sweep. Davis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Armstrong won't allow Davis to pass to mount.
Armstrong is trying to stand up here but Davis is controlling him well.
Davis content to control rather than advance.

Armstrong kicks Davis off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Armstrong will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Davis shoots in but Armstrong avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Davis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Armstrong takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Davis in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Davis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Davis takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Davis is nestled in close to Armstrong, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Armstrong moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Davis makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Davis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Davis connects with a couple of short punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Davis tries to pass to full mount but Armstrong defends it.
Davis has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Davis is landing with some decent strikes but Armstrong is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hugh Armstrong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Catfish Davis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Davis putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

And that's the end of the fight!
Catfish Davis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Davis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
