Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luke John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Therom Selryam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luke John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Therom Selryam!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Selryam tries to clinch but John is having none of it.
John just misses with a punch to the body.
Selryam fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Selryam tries to clinch up.
Selryam throws a low kick but it's checked well by John.
John tries to clinch but Selryam moves out of range.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Selryam paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Selryam misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
John displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Selryam throws out the jab.
John shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Selryam as he avoids it easily.
John tries to score a power double leg takedown but Selryam sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten John somewhat.
Selryam shoots in looking for a takedown. John tries to sprawl out of it but Selryam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. John manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Luke John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Therom Selryam.

That's one minute gone in the round.
John shoots in but no luck this time.
Selryam bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Selryam tries to clinch but John moves out of range.
Selryam shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.

Selryam closes the distance and clinches.
John could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Selryam's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Selryam drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
John tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Selryam smiles and moves away.
Selryam shoots in but John avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Selryam leaves John with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Selryam avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
John is looking to clinch but Selryam is avoiding it.
John tries to clinch up.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Selryam paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Good leg kick by Selryam there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

John closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if John is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
John is breathing heavily.

Selryam is trying to get back to full guard.

Selryam kicks John off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

John gets a double leg takedown into Selryam's guard.
Selryam is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
John looking to sit in guard and control but Selryam gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
John might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Selryam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Selryam advances to half guard.
Selryam controlling the action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Selryam is sneakily working for an arm triangle but John sees it coming and defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Therom Selryam will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Selryam shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.
John throws a right hand that Selryam ducks under and follows up with a left that Selryam also avoids with ease.
John fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Selryam moves into the clinch.
Selryam is struggling to control the position.
Selryam prevents the takedown attempt.
Selryam drops to a knee looking for a takedown but John gets the underhooks and prevents it.
John takes a knee right on the jaw!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Selryam manages to pull guard.
John preventing the sweep.

Selryam kicks John off and gets to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from John.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke John. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Selryam stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Selryam wants it to stay on the feet.
Selryam fails with the takedown.

Selryam shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches John napping and manages to drive through into side control!
John knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Selryam on the ground.
Selryam remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Selryam has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

John has a takedown stuffed.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Selryam throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Selryam is trying hard to land a takedown here. John sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Selryam lands a two punch combo.
Luke John is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
John throws a half hearted mid kick.
Selryam misses with a jab, cross combination.

Selryam swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Selryam moves out of range of the body kick.
John defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Selryam.
Selryam misses the body punch
and Selryam takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Crunch! Selryam slams his shin into John's torso.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
John is trying to break the clinch but Selryam is controlling him.
John fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Selryam manages to pull guard.
Selryam wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
John looking to sit in guard and control but Selryam gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
John is trying to control the position from the bottom.
John has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Selryam has passed into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Selryam controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Therom Selryam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


John takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
John shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Selryam as he avoids it easily.

Selryam slips a jab and a cross from John.
John swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
John takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
John avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Selryam rushes John and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Selryam is trying to drag John to the mat but John just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
John prevents the takedown attempt.
Luke John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Therom Selryam.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Selryam has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. John avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
John controlling the action here for a moment.

Selryam pulls John into guard.
Selryam wants to sweep here but John controlling him for the moment.
John is looking to advance position but Selryam has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
John on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if John tries to get out of the position.

John is in all sorts of trouble here.

Selryam thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Therom Selryam has got the better of the ground game so far.
Selryam throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for John because Selryam loaded up on that one.

Selryam misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Selryam is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, John has managed to escape the submission attempt.
John tries to lock up and control but Selryam gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Therom Selryam comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Selryam has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
