PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kendall Grove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DeMarcus Kilroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kendall Grove!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DeMarcus Kilroy!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kilroy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Grove to the mat! Grove manages to get full guard.

Kilroy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grove not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kilroy throwing strikes but missing.
Grove is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kilroy tries to kick Grove off but Grove keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Grove is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Grove trying to control the action but Kilroy is working from the bottom.
Kilroy is trying to control but can't.

Kilroy works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kilroy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Grove with a nice head shot there.
Grove wants to control from the top but Kilroy keeps moving.
Grove looking to sit in guard and control but Kilroy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kilroy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Grove wants to stand and escape but Kilroy is having none of it.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Grove holds on and takes a little breather.
Kilroy wants to control from the top but Grove keeps moving.
Kilroy throwing strikes but missing.
Grove is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Grove looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Grove content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Grove winds up and cracks Kilroy with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kilroy wants to improve his position but Grove is controlling well.
Kilroy keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Grove is pressing down on Kilroy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kilroy is holding on for now.
Kilroy wants to control but Grove is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Grove trying to mount his opponent but Kilroy defends it.
Grove seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kilroy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kilroy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Grove circles away.
Kilroy misses with a wild combination.
Kilroy looks gassed!
Grove tries to clinch there but Kilroy circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kilroy is working for takedown but Grove is calmly controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kendall Grove will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Grove tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kilroy tries to move to mount but Grove blocks the move with his legs.
Kilroy wants to control but Grove is keeping him busy.

Kilroy decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kilroy misses with a wild combination.

Kilroy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kilroy is breathing heavily.
Grove throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Grove looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Kilroy counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Grove tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kilroy just stands there and leans against the cage.

and Kilroy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Grove's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kendall Grove. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Grove looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kilroy passes Grove's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Grove wants to control but Kilroy is keeping busy.
Grove gets full guard.
Grove bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kilroy's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Grove wants to get up but he can't break Kilroy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Grove gets to his feet. Kilroy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Kilroy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Grove's guard now.

Kilroy is pushing down on Grove's leg trying to pass to half guard. Grove is fighting to maintain full guard but Kilroy has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kilroy thows a huge punch but Grove dodges it nicely.

Kilroy gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Grove wants to clinch.
Kilroy fails to land the takedown.
Kendall Grove is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kilroy avoids the head kick by Grove.
Grove tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kilroy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Grove doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kilroy counters with a single leg into guard. Grove didn't expect that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kilroy gets to his feet - Grove follows without any prompting.

Kilroy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Grove's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Grove looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kilroy is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DeMarcus Kilroy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kilroy is trying to control the position but Grove postures up.
Grove is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kilroy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kilroy looking for a sweep. Not yet Kilroy, not yet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Grove has closed the distance and engaged Kilroy in a clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kilroy keeps control of Grove as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kilroy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Grove just stands there and leans against the cage.

Grove is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Grove trying to keep a closed guard but Kilroy is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Grove wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kilroy has him pressed against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Kilroy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Grove won't be happy with that.

You can see the frustration on Grove's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Grove holds on to Kilroy's head and controls the position momentarily.
Grove is looking to regain half guard here but Kilroy keeps moving and retains side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
DeMarcus Kilroy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kilroy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
