PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Reed!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Owens moves into the clinch.
Owens has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Reed is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Owens changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Reed fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Samuel Owens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Owens walks into a jab.
Reed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Reed loads up on a big right hand but Owens slips the punch.
Reed tries to clinch
and Owens makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Reed breaks from the clinch.
Jake Reed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Owens moves in looking to clinch but Reed pushes him off.
Reed misses with a wild body shot.
Owens shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reed but Reed pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Reed doesn't manage to clinch there - Owens circles away.
Owens looks for a takedown but Reed sprawls well.

Reed moves into the clinch successfully.

Reed escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reed fails with an attempt to clinch.
Reed dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Reed fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Samuel Owens has been cut.
Owens swats away the attempt to clinch by Reed.
Reed throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Owens misses with a right hand
and Reed counters with a big head kick but Owens shrugs it off.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch but Owens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Owens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Owens is breathing heavily.

Owens moves into the clinch.

Reed's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Reed lands with a nice body kick.
Reed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Reed plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Reed takes the fight into the clinch.

Reed breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Reed lands a high kick to the side of Owens's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Reed dives into guard, looking to finish.


Owens is rocked!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Reed wants to stand but Owens has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Oh Owens is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Reed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Owens seems to have got his legs back now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Reed hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Reed connects with an inside leg kick.

Reed moves into range and clinches up with Owens.

Reed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Owens misses with a takedown attempt - Reed sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jab, jab by Reed - just one landing.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Owens. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Owens gets tackled into the cage by Reed. Reed maintains the clinch.
Owens stalling in the clinch.

Reed breaks from the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed avoids the head kick by Owens.
Reed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Reed wants to clinch up but Owens keeps it at a distance.
Reed takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Reed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Owens fails in his attempt to clinch.
Owens wants to clinch up but Reed keeps it at a distance.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch but Owens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reed moves in looking to clinch but Owens pushes him off.

Reed clinches up against the cage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Reed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Reed, as that shot connected.

Reed gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Owens tries for a takedown but Reed manages to get underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Reed dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Samuel Owens's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Reed scores with a head kick. Owens tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Reed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Reed wants to clinch up but Owens keeps it at a distance.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Owens paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Reed. No joy for Owens on that attempt.
Owens shoots in and drives through. Reed sprawls well.
Reed displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Owens.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Samuel Owens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reed goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Reed doesn't manage to clinch there - Owens circles away.
Owens on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Reed. Reed obviously looking to wear him down.
Reed tries to clinch up but Owens circles away and keeps his distance.
Reed throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Owens.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Owens clinches up with Reed and pushes him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Reed breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reed stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Reed! Owens is out on his feet! Reed rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Owens is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Owens is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Reed!
During a confident post fight interview, Jake Reed thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
