PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Forest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hamder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Hamder's choice of entrance music: Madonna - Erotica. Jack Hamder is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Forest Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Hamder!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin tries for a takedown but Hamder sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Hamder closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hamder works his foot free and advances to mount.

Hamder looking to secure an arm triangle but Griffin defends it well.
Hamder avoids the attempt from Griffin to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hamder controlling the position easily from mount.
Griffin wants to hold on but Hamder pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griffin throwing hammer fists to the chest of Hamder. What's that going to do exactly?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hamder looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Griffin wants to hold on but Hamder pushes him away.
Griffin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Hamder is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Griffin doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Hamder counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hamder trying to mount his opponent but Griffin defends it.
Hamder looks gassed!
Griffin is looking for a sweep. Hamder is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Griffin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hamder is working away from the top position though.

Griffin is not content to let Hamder control the position.

Hamder stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

and Hamder counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hamder.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Forest Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hamder stopping the sweep attempt from Griffin.

Griffin trying to control from the bottom.
Hamder not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hamder looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Griffin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hamder decides to stand up.
Griffin tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hamder counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hamder.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hamder sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Griffin's guard.
Griffin trying to hold on to Hamder's head to control him but Hamder postures up.

Hamder decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Griffin tries to clinch but Hamder moves away

and Hamder counters with a shoot takedown. Griffin fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hamder slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hamder has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Griffin!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hamder working for a guillotine from mount but Griffin is in no mood to give up.

Hamder working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Hamder dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Griffin misses with a head kick.
Hamder shoots in and drives through. Griffin sprawls well.
Griffin misses with a takedown attempt

and Hamder counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Griffin trying to hold on to Hamder's head to control him but Hamder postures up.
Hamder trying to mount his opponent but Griffin defends it.
Griffin is looking to improve his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hamder works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hamder wants to take Griffin's back but he can't do it this time.

Hamder is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Griffin is surviving well by controlling Hamder's body position as best he can.
You get the feeling that Griffin really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Griffin is looking to improve his position but Hamder isn't that keen on the idea.
Griffin bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hamder looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Hamder is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Griffin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Griffin is posturing up here but Hamder has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Griffin tries to roll out but it's too tight and Griffin has to tap! Slick submission there by Hamder!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jack Hamder!
