PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eliah Marshal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Renzo Alves !
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marshal circles away.
Alves swings for the body but Marshal moves out of range.
Marshal tries to clinch up.
Alves looks for the body kick but Marshal saw that one coming.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alves misses with a wild body shot.
Marshal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alves misses with a double jab.
Alves fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Alves scores with a nice right hand.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marshal looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Marshal fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Alves checks it well.
Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Marshal.

Alves lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Marshal keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Marshal ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Alves will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Marshal throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Marshal clinches up with Alves and pushes him back against the cage.
Alves is trying to break the clinch but Marshal is controlling him.
Marshal lands an elbow just above Alves 's eye.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Marshal avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Marshal throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Alves blocks it with crossed arms.

Alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Marshal struggles to land a body shot inside as Alves controls his hands.

Alves breaks the clinch.
Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marshal moves away.
Alves takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Marshal fakes the leg kick and cracks Alves in the body.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Renzo Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marshal connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alves 's hands.

Alves ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Alves misses with a double jab
and Marshal counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Alves lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Alves .
Alves works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Alves shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Alves not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Alves thows a huge punch but Marshal dodges it nicely.

Marshal wants to control but Alves is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Alves is working for a kimura but Marshal is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Marshal tries to roll over but Alves keeps him under control.
Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Marshal takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Marshal is looking to clinch.
Renzo Alves seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Marshal throws a sloppy body shot
and Alves makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Alves feints and then cracks Marshal's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Marshal down.

Alves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marshal was covering up waiting for the punch and Alves finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Alves is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Alves decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Marshal, up you get!

Marshal drops his hands momentarily and Alves takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Marshal walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Marshal takes a swing at Alves 's ribcage but misses.
Marshal throws a leg kick which misses Alves 's front leg but catches the back leg as Alves tries to avoid it.

Marshal's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Alves connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Marshal scrambles back to his feet.

Marshal misses with an uppercut. Alves saw that one coming.
Alves looks to score with a jab to the body but Marshal is just out of range.

Marshal avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Alves throws a leg kick which misses Marshal's front leg but catches the back leg as Marshal tries to avoid it.
Alves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marshal tries to avoid it but Alves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marshal to the ground. Marshal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Alves takes a head kick and keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marshal moves away.
Alves swings for the body but Marshal moves out of range.
Alves looks to land a left hand but Marshal moved out of range nicely.

Alves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marshal tries to avoid it but Alves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marshal to the ground. Marshal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Eliah Marshal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renzo Alves .
Marshal throws a jab when Alves was well out of range.
Alves bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Marshal's head.
Alves looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Alves closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Marshal's guard.
Alves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves has gone for a leg lock! Marshal slips out almost immediately though and dives into Alves 's guard.

Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marshal can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Renzo Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Alves throws a big shot that misses.
Alves misses with a head kick.
Marshal lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Alves is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Marshal rather than just go for the knockout.
Alves thows a body shot but no joy.
Alves lands with an overhand left.

Alves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marshal sprawls well initially but Alves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Alves thows a huge punch but Marshal dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshal wants to control but Alves is keeping busy.
Alves throws a strike but Marshal avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Marshal is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Marshal avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Alves is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marshal is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marshal has escaped and now he's on top!

Renzo Alves has got the better of the ground game so far.
Alves tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Marshal has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Eliah Marshal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alves is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Marshal manages to capitalize on a mistake by Alves to take his back!
Renzo Alves is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

You can see the frustration on Alves 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
A lull in the action here.
Alves can't escape the position.
Marshal controls the position.
Alves rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Alves wants to get back to full guard.

Alves is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Marshal trying to mount his opponent but Alves defends it.
Alves wants to control but Marshal is keeping busy.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alves has a hand on Marshal's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marshal takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Renzo Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Alves winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
