Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between JB Pencil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Apacz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pencil comes to the cage accompanied by Second Chance. JB Pencil had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 146.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matthew Apacz!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pencil tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Apacz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pencil closes the distance looking to clinch
and Apacz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pencil's guard.
Pencil wants to stand up but Apacz is controlling him.
Apacz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Apacz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Apacz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pencil wants to stand up but Apacz is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Apacz passes Pencil's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Apacz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pencil trying to control from the bottom.
Apacz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pencil defends it well.
Pencil tries to roll over but Apacz keeps him under control.

Still in half guard, Apacz seems content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matthew Apacz was stalling too much, according to the referee.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Pencil.
Pencil darts in trying to clinch
and Apacz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pencil is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Apacz is controlling him.
Pencil is breathing heavily.
Apacz drops back looking for a leg! Pencil is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pencil manages to kick Apacz off! Apacz jumps back into Pencil's guard.
Pencil wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Apacz manages to pass to side control.

Apacz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Apacz is pressing down on Pencil's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pencil is holding on for now.
Apacz has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Apacz working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Pencil looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Apacz! Submission of the night perhaps?
