Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter South (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Whitney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). South comes to the cage accompanied by Satisfaction. Joe Whitney will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Peter South!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Whitney!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
South moves into range and connects with a jab.
South closes the distance and clinches up with Whitney, looking for a takedown. South pushes Whitney against the cage but Whitney circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
South takes a swing at Whitney's ribcage but misses.
South fails to land the takedown.
A swing and a miss from Whitney.
South misses with a shot to the body
and Whitney counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Whitney closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Whitney uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by South.

That's one minute gone in the round.
South misses with a hook
and South takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Whitney fails in his attempt to clinch.
South throws a combination that misses
letting Whitney counter with a right hand.
South shoots in but Whitney avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter South. That's going to take a lot out of him.
South misses with a wild combination.

and Whitney connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
South throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

South changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Whitney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
South misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
South tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
South wants to control but Whitney is keeping him busy.
South looks up at the clock and then as Whitney takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, South smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

South is looking to take a break and control but Whitney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
South cracks Whitney with an elbow. That is naaassty.
South in side control, throwing shots but Whitney defends.
South misses with the ground and pound.
South trying to control the action but Whitney is working from the bottom.
South has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The strikes coming from South are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Whitney prevents South from improving position.
Whitney takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Whitney parries the strikes from South easily there. South is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Whitney to escape.
South tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


South misses with a takedown attempt - Whitney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
South shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Whitney tries to clinch up but South circles away and keeps his distance.
South misses the shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whitney stalks South and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into South's face. South staggers backwards, shaken.

South gets tackled into the cage by Whitney. Whitney maintains the clinch.

Whitney is trying to push South away but South has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Whitney creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
South is trying to drag Whitney to the mat but Whitney just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter South. That's going to take a lot out of him.
South is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Whitney stops a takedown attempt from South.
South keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Whitney's efforts to push away.
Whitney prevents a takedown attempt there.
South has Whitney pressed against the cage, preventing Whitney from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Whitney is looking to break free of the clinch but South has double underhooks.
South drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Whitney gets the underhooks and prevents it.
South tries to pull guard but Whitney won't allow it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
South has Whitney pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Whitney manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Whitney pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Peter South seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Whitney. South does a little dance to reset his feet.
No luck for South with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Whitney showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


South fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
South tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Whitney is able to avoid easily.
Whitney doesn't manage to clinch there - South circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joe Whitney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
South wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Whitney tries to clinch up
and South counters with a series of strikes. Whitney will be more careful next time no doubt.

Whitney fails in his attempt to clinch.
Joe Whitney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

South slips a jab and a cross from Whitney.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from South lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Whitney has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Whitney and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
South misses the shot to the body.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter South. That's going to take a lot out of him.
South is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Whitney pulls him back up using the underhooks.
South wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Whitney lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
South is trying to pull guard but Whitney has him pressed against the cage.
South has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Whitney after a bit of a struggle.
South is trying to drag Whitney to the mat but Whitney just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Whitney manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter South.
I think South has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
