PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Diego Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piotr Dlugi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piotr Dlugi struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Diego Carneiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Piotr Dlugi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dlugi shoots in but Carneiro avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dlugi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carneiro sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Dlugi is looking to clinch but Carneiro is avoiding it.

Carneiro feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Carneiro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Dlugi keeping moving, preventing Carneiro from controlling successfully.
Carneiro looking to sit in guard and control but Dlugi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Carneiro not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carneiro pulls Dlugi in close to prevent any damage.

Carneiro looking for subs off his back but Dlugi has passed one foot through into half guard.
Dlugi wants to stand up but Carneiro manages to regain full guard.
Carneiro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dlugi is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carneiro is on top in guard.

Carneiro stands and steps away. Dlugi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dlugi fails with a takedown attempt.
Diego Carneiro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Piotr Dlugi.
Dlugi looks winded!

Carneiro drives through with a takedown into Dlugi's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Carneiro stands up from Dlugi's guard - Carneiro perhaps looking for a knockout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dlugi leaves Carneiro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carneiro fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dlugi avoids it really well and circles away.
Carneiro shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dlugi defends it nicely.
Carneiro shoots in for a double leg but Dlugi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carneiro throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dlugi's waist but Dlugi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carneiro off to one side.

Dlugi shoots in and bounces Carneiro off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Carneiro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dlugi is aware though and is defending well.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dlugi trying to control the position from guard on top but Carneiro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carneiro can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dlugi controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Carneiro changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dlugi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Carneiro looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Dlugi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Carneiro decides to stand back up.
Carneiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dlugi is breathing heavily.
Carneiro stuffs the takedown.

Dlugi gets caught flat footed, as Carneiro shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carneiro controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carneiro passes Dlugi's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Diego Carneiro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carneiro is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Carneiro maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Dlugi could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Carneiro has cracked it and Dlugi is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Carneiro!
