PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Cold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Stjohn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cold comes to the cage accompanied by Song of justice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cold throws a head kick that misses.
Cold avoids the head kick by Stjohn.

Stjohn rushes Cold and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cold tries for a takedown. No joy.
Cold wants to stall.
Cold tries a body shot but Stjohn blocks it.
Stjohn tries to score a body lock takedown but Cold shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Cold tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stjohn just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cold wants to get back to striking at distance but Stjohn won't allow it.

Stjohn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Stjohn is fighting to break Cold's control of his arms but Cold is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jesse Stjohn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Stjohn shoots in but no luck this time.
Stjohn pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Stjohn tries to clinch up.
Cold keeps the fight on the outside.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cold.

Cold takes the fight into the clinch.

Cold lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cold takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Stjohn wants to control but Cold is keeping busy.
Cold trying to control the pace.
Stjohn wants to get back to his feet.

Stjohn flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Stjohn is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jack Cold wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cold looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stjohn is fending him off so far but Cold persists. Nope, Stjohn circles away and we're back to standing.
Stjohn shoots in looking for a takedown. Cold tries to sprawl out of it but Stjohn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cold manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cold ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stjohn moves away.
Horrible takedown by Stjohn or perhaps it was just good defense by Cold which made him look bad.

Stjohn is trying to pull guard but Cold has him pressed against the cage.
Cold with an attempt at a knee that misses.

A bit of stalling here from Cold.
Stjohn has Cold pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cold manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Stjohn gets control of Cold's arms and successfully pulls guard. Stjohn will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Cold will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A head kick misses from Cold.
Stjohn shoots in looking for a takedown. Cold tries to sprawl out of it but Stjohn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cold manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Stjohn is trying to stand.
Cold is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Cold is trying to control the action in half guard but Stjohn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Stjohn looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cold puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Cold gets to his feet - Stjohn follows without any prompting.
Stjohn is looking to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cold is defended easily by Stjohn.
Jack Cold is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cold fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stjohn to the ground. Cold is now in Stjohn's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cold wants to control from the top but Stjohn keeps moving.

Cold stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stjohn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cold tries to free his leg and advance position but Stjohn is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jack Cold wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Stjohn stuns Cold with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Stjohn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cold sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Cold throws a chopping leg kick but Stjohn manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Cold gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stjohn to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Stjohn is trying desperately to improve position.

Cold swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Stjohn is now in Cold's guard. A big mistake from Cold there, giving up the dominant position!

Stjohn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cold manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stjohn has Cold in his guard.
Cold controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Stjohn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cold is controlling him.
Cold wants to pass the guard but Stjohn is keeping the position.

Jack Cold has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Cold closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stjohn to the mat! Stjohn manages to get full guard.

Jack Cold overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cold, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
