PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boris Yeltsin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fedor Emelianenko will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Yeltsin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yeltsin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Yeltsin working away.
Emelianenko tries to buck Yeltsin off but Yeltsin is having none of it.
Emelianenko struggling a bit here.
Yeltsin happy to just control the position for now.

Yeltsin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Emelianenko, who protects the arm well.
Yeltsin is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Yeltsin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Emelianenko's guard now.
Yeltsin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Emelianenko manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Yeltsin is trying desperately to improve position.
Yeltsin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Emelianenko has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Yeltsin's face.


It looks like Boris Yeltsin has been cut.
Emelianenko trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Yeltsin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Yeltsin bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Yeltsin stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Emelianenko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Emelianenko swats away the attempt to clinch by Yeltsin.
Emelianenko thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Yeltsin if he has to take too many more of those.

Emelianenko moves into the clinch.
Emelianenko tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Yeltsin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Emelianenko cracks Yeltsin with a nice body shot.
Yeltsin tries to score a body lock takedown but Emelianenko shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Yeltsin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Yeltsin can't get the takedown.
Yeltsin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Emelianenko is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boris Yeltsin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Emelianenko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yeltsin is looking to land body kicks.
Yeltsin takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Yeltsin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Emelianenko.

and Yeltsin moves into the clinch.

Yeltsin manages to pull guard.
Yeltsin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Emelianenko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Yeltsin dives on top into guard.
Yeltsin postures up in Emelianenko's guard and throws a big left but Emelianenko blocks it.

Yeltsin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Yeltsin forces his way into half guard.
Yeltsin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Emelianenko wants to control but Yeltsin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yeltsin decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Yeltsin shoots in and bounces Emelianenko off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Emelianenko pulls Yeltsin in close to prevent any damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yeltsin slips nicely into half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Boris Yeltsin will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Yeltsin shoots in for a takedown but Emelianenko shows good takedown defense.
Emelianenko dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Yeltsin. That did some damage!

Emelianenko controls Yeltsin momentarily but Yeltsin frees himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yeltsin is fighting to break Emelianenko's control of his arms but Emelianenko is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Emelianenko working for a triangle but Yeltsin defends it easily.
Emelianenko can't keep his opponent in guard - Yeltsin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Yeltsin slows the pace down in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Emelianenko is staying active underneath Yeltsin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Emelianenko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yeltsin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yeltsin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Emelianenko looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Emelianenko prevents Yeltsin from improving his position.
Emelianenko tries to pass to full mount but Yeltsin defends it.
Yeltsin is trying to stand back up but Emelianenko is controlling him

Yeltsin tries to lock up and control but Emelianenko gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Emelianenko is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Yeltsin has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Yeltsin!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Emelianenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Emelianenko rushes Yeltsin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Yeltsin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Emelianenko's waist but Emelianenko gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yeltsin off to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Emelianenko feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Yeltsin has his feet on Emelianenko's thighs here. He's pushed Emelianenko off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Emelianenko screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
