PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harri Koivu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Razvan Sefu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harri Koivu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Razvan Sefu!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sefu throws a series of punches but Koivu moves out of range.
Koivu throws a head kick but Sefu moves out of range.
Koivu scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sefu doesn't seem bothered though.
Sefu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sefu misses with the combination.
No luck for Koivu with that takedown attempt.

A combination from Koivu does no damage.
Koivu is looking to clinch but Sefu is avoiding it.
Koivu missing with a left hand there. Sefu was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Koivu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Koivu displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sefu throws out the jab.
Sefu slaps away a takedown attempt from Koivu, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sefu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koivu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sefu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Sefu postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sefu looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Koivu with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Koivu is breathing heavily.
The referee warns Koivu that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Sefu is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Koivu can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Koivu wants to control but Sefu is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sefu cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sefu lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Razvan Sefu dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Koivu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Koivu lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sefu!
Sefu is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Koivu misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Razvan Sefu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sefu clobbers Koivu with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Sefu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Koivu to the ground. Sefu is now in Koivu's guard.

Koivu can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sefu controls the pace.
Koivu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sefu is pushing down on Koivu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Koivu is fighting to maintain full guard but Sefu has managed to sneak the leg through.
Well, if Sefu is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Razvan Sefu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sefu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
