Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
21 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Maurice McDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Woima Karhu!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald thows a body shot but no joy.
McDonald feints and then cracks Karhu's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Karhu down.
Karhu tries to score a power double leg takedown but McDonald sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Karhu somewhat.
McDonald displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Karhu throws out the jab.
Karhu misses with a head kick.
McDonald connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Karhu to the floor! McDonald dives in looking for the finish!
It looks like Woima Karhu has been cut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Karhu trying to control from the bottom.
Well, if McDonald is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
McDonald thows a huge punch but Karhu dodges it nicely.
Karhu gets back to full guard.
McDonald knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karhu on the ground.
McDonald trying to control but Karhu is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Karhu has McDonald pulled in close to control his posture.
Karhu pushes a forearm under McDonald's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, McDonald is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Woima Karhu!
An out of breath Woima Karhu thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
