The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pekkanen.

Sifu feints and as Pekkanen raises his hands in defense, Sifu changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sifu won't allow Pekkanen to sweep him here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pekkanen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sifu is aware though and is defending well.

Sifu wants to stand and escape but instead Pekkanen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Pekkanen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sifu misses with a head kick.

Pekkanen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Sifu closes the distance and clinches.
Pekkanen goes for a takedown attempt but Sifu pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Pekkanen shoots in for a double leg but Sifu sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Artho Pekkanen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sifu tries a head kick but it misses.
Pekkanen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sifu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pekkanen somewhat.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Theone Sifu was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Sifu is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pekkanen's half guard.

Pekkanen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sifu defends well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sifu tries to free his leg and advance position but Pekkanen is retaining full guard.

Pekkanen wants to control but Sifu is keeping busy.

Pekkanen is looking to sinch up a triangle. Sifu throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Pekkanen's body to avoid the submission. Pekkanen has instead reached around Sifu's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Pekkanen arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
