PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Atsushi Matsunaga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Muto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matsunaga comes to the cage accompanied by Masaaki Endoh - Ai wo Torimodose!!. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Atsushi Matsunaga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stan Muto!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Muto drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Muto looking to pass the guard.
Muto wants to control from the top but Matsunaga keeps moving.

Muto stands and steps away. Matsunaga gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Matsunaga fails with the takedown

and Muto counters with a takedown into side control.
Matsunaga can't do much from the bottom here.

Muto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Muto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matsunaga is trying to control Muto's posture but Muto avoids it.
Matsunaga is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Muto works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Matsunaga stops Muto from passing to mount.

Muto looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Matsunaga is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Muto creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Matsunaga is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Muto trying to control the position but Matsunaga is working away.
Matsunaga is looking to reverse the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Matsunaga swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Muto counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Matsunaga!

Matsunaga is looking to get to half guard.
Muto looks gassed!
Muto pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Matsunaga is in all sorts of trouble here.
Muto controlling from the full mount.

Muto goes for an armbar but Matsunaga turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Matsunaga.

Matsunaga wants to stand but Muto is controlling his posture from full guard.

Matsunaga has gone for a leg lock! Muto slips out almost immediately though and dives into Matsunaga's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stan Muto dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Muto tries to clinch there but Matsunaga circles away.
Atsushi Matsunaga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick from Muto lands but Matsunaga takes it in his stride.
Atsushi Matsunaga is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Muto - that will leave a mark!
Matsunaga misses with a wild combination.
A combination from Muto does no damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matsunaga swings away with a body shot that misses

and Muto counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Matsunaga's guard now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Muto's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Muto is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Muto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Matsunaga is keeping the position for now.

Muto gets to his feet. Matsunaga looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Muto uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Matsunaga.
Matsunaga tries for a takedown but Muto circles away easily
and Muto counters with a low kick, right behind Matsunaga 's knee.
Matsunaga fails with the takedown

and Muto counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Matsunaga's guard now.
Muto slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Matsunaga trying to keep a closed guard but Muto is proving a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Muto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Matsunaga works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Matsunaga wants to sweep here but Muto controlling him for the moment.
Matsunaga keeping moving, preventing Muto from controlling successfully.

Matsunaga is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Matsunaga is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Matsunaga looks to throw a body kick

and Muto holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Matsunaga tries to pull guard but Muto won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Atsushi Matsunaga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Muto is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matsunaga pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Matsunaga using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Muto has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Matsunaga breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Matsunaga shoots in and bounces Muto off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Muto keeping moving, preventing Matsunaga from controlling successfully.
Muto has control of Matsunaga's left arm, preventing Matsunaga from doing any damage.

Muto kicks Matsunaga off and gets to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Matsunaga throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Muto.

Muto gets a takedown into half guard.
Muto is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Matsunaga!

Muto has hold of Matsunaga's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Matsunaga manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Muto connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Matsunaga keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stan Muto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Muto is looking to clinch.

Muto feints and as Matsunaga raises his hands in defense, Muto changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Muto connects with a couple of short punches.

Muto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Matsunaga, up you get!

Muto closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Muto lands in his opponent's guard.
Stan Muto has got the better of the ground game so far.

Muto stands and steps away. Matsunaga gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Muto misses with a takedown attempt - Matsunaga sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Matsunaga doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Muto counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Matsunaga has his feet on Muto's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

and Matsunaga counters by moving into the clinch.

Matsunaga breaks the clinch.

Matsunaga drives through and clinches with Muto against the cage.
Muto fails to pull guard.
Atsushi Matsunaga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stan Muto.

Matsunaga escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Matsunaga can't keep his opponent in guard - Muto advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Matsunaga has a hand on Muto's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Muto takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Muto avoids the attempt from Matsunaga to control.
Muto content just to control the position here.
Muto wants to control the pace but Matsunaga is squirming around nicely.

Muto manages to capitalize on a mistake by Matsunaga to take his back!
Matsunaga is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Muto has Matsunaga flattened out and is raining down punches.
Muto trying to control momentarily.
Muto biding his time, looking for the opening.
Atsushi Matsunaga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Muto struggling to keep hold of the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Muto lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Matsunaga.
Will Muto go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Muto is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Matsunaga is tapping out! This one is all over!
