Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rahman Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romo Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rahman Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Romo Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


It looks like Romo Diaz has been cut.
A decent looking cross lands there for Jones.
Jones throws a hook but Diaz avoids it easily.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diaz.
Diaz ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz.
Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Diaz sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Diaz throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Diaz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Jones throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.
Rahman Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Romo Diaz.

Jones throws the left hand but Diaz avoids the punch easily.
Jones misses with a looping left.
Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jones swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Diaz bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Jones's head.
Diaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jones.

Diaz is trying desperately to land a takedown but Jones is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Diaz.
Jones swings for the body but Diaz moves out of range.
Jones throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Jones gets caught napping as Diaz dives in and scores a takedown. Jones manages to retain guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Diaz passes Jones's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jones avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Diaz.
Diaz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jones keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Diaz is looking to pass Jones's guard but actually Jones recovers to full guard.
Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

Diaz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diaz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
Diaz passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jones managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Diaz.

Jones wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Diaz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz misses with the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Diaz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Joness jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Rahman Jones is winning the standup battle so far.
Diaz avoids the head kick by Jones.
Rahman Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones throws a hook but Diaz avoids it easily.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense.
Diaz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Jones missing with a left hand there. Diaz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jones throws a right and a left that Diaz avoids nicely.

and Diaz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jones clobbers Diaz with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
A looping hook to the body misses from Diaz. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Diaz.
Jones leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rahman Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Romo Diaz.

Diaz moves away from the strike by Jones.
Jones lands a body shot.
Diaz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Jones throws out a powerful jab.
Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Diaz connects with a body shot that sends Jones's belly button to the back.
Jones darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Jones is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz misses with a few strikes there.
Jones swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Diaz.

Jones tries to bum rush Diaz with a series of wild strikes but Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Diaz moves away.
Jones lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Diaz avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Jones jabs Diaz right on the nose. Diaz blinks but takes it well.
Jones jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.
Diaz cracks Jones with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Jones fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Diaz throws out a powerful jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jones misses with a body shot.

Diaz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Diaz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Jones is avoiding damage well.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A lull in the action here as Diaz stalls from top position.
Diaz scores with a couple of short elbows.

Diaz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jones sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jones is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Jones prevents Diaz from moving into mount.
The strikes coming from Diaz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Diaz tries to score with some ground and pound. Jones controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rahman Jones will probably get the nod.

The referee asks Diaz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Diaz prefers to stall for the moment though.

Diaz passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Jones!
Diaz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
Romo Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jones wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Jones is bucking up trying to escape but Diaz cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Diaz trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Diaz lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Diaz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Diaz throws some wild stikes that Jones manages to avoid easily.
Diaz has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jones's face.
Diaz putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!


Jones is rocked!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Jones is out cold - huge knockout for Diaz!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Romo Diaz!
Our winner, Romo Diaz, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
